Assistant Construction Manager

An Assistant Construction Manager is a hands-on, field-focused leader who helps ensure the project is built safely, on time, on budget, and to quality standards while supporting the Construction Manager and coordinating daily jobsite activities.

Pay: This is an exempt/salary position. The pay range is $90,000-$130,000. Pay may vary depending on your location, skills, and experience.

Location/Travel Requirements: Position is based on site at project locations in Omaha, NE and Lincoln, NE.

What You'll Do

1. Field Operations Support

• Assist the Construction Manager in daily jobsite operations
• Assist the Construction Manager in coordinating and monitor subcontractors, crews, and equipment
• Ensure work is performed according to plans, specifications, and schedule

2. Scheduling & Planning

• Support development and execution of the construction schedule
• Track daily/weekly production and progress
• Assist with look-ahead planning (2-week / 3-week schedules)
• Identify potential delays and communicate them early
• Help sequence work to maximize efficiency and workflow

3. Subcontractor & Crew Coordination

• Act as a point of contact between subcontractors and project leadership
• Ensure subcontractors are aligned with scope of work, schedule expectations, and safety requirements
• Assist in resolving field conflicts and coordination issues

4. Safety Management

• Promote and enforce jobsite safety standards
• Support incident reporting and investigations
• Ensure compliance with company policies

5. Quality Control

• Help ensure all work meets quality standards and specifications
• Perform field inspections and walkthrough when onsite
• Assist with punch lists, deficiency tracking, and corrective actions
• Verify with the QAQC manager that work is being completed to code

6. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate daily reports, including work completed, crew sizes, weather conditions, delays/issues
• Coordinate with field and APM to track and document installed quantities, productivity, and field progress

7. Material & Procurement Support

• Assist with the construction manager to maintain accurate material takeoffs
• Coordinate material deliveries and staging
• Ensure materials are delivered on time, stored properly, and available when needed
• Communicate with procurement team on shortages or delays

8. Cost & Productivity Awareness

• Monitor labor productivity and equipment usage
• Assist in identifying cost impacts or inefficiencies
• Help track field-related costs
• Support CM in staying within budget targets

9. Communication & Collaboration

• Serve as a bridge between field and office teams
• Communicate daily with Construction Manager, Engineers, Project teams, and Subcontractors
• Ensure clear understanding of priorities and expectations

10. Project Closeout

• Assist with project closeout activities, including final inspections, punch list completion, and as-built documentation
• Support turnover to owner/client

What You'll Bring

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• Relevant bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
• 2 to 5 years of experience managing high voltage transmission or substation projects
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability to obtain DOT Medical Examiners Certificate

Preferred Skills:

• Working knowledge of construction scheduling tools and look-ahead planning
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents
• Strong communication and coordination skills when working with field teams, subcontractors, and project leadership
• Knowledge of jobsite safety practices, quality control expectations, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction management or project tracking software
