Growing together.You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:Design, develop, deploy, and maintain scalable software applications and platform services supporting the OQGA ecosystem, including batch processing, APIs, integrations, and healthcare quality solutionsBuild and maintain reliable data pipelines and distributed application components that process large healthcare and quality datasets while ensuring performance, scalability, and data integrityDevelop high-quality software solutions using Java, Python, SQL, and modern engineering frameworks following enterprise coding standards and best practicesCollaborate with architects and senior engineers to implement scalable application designs, technical solutions, and cloud-based services aligned with business and technology objectivesAnalyze business and technical requirements and translate them into efficient, maintainable, and secure software solutionsParticipate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements refinement, design, development, testing, deployment, and production supportPartner with Product, QA, Operations, and cross-functional engineering teams to estimate work, resolve dependencies, and deliver features using Agile methodologiesSupport deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of OQGA applications across DEV, TEST, UAT, STAGE, and PROD environments. Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiativesLeverage enterprise-approved AI tools and modern engineering practices to improve productivity, automate repetitive tasks, and support innovation initiatives where appropriateParticipate in code reviews, design discussions, technical documentation, and knowledge-sharing activities to strengthen overall engineering qualityMentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learningDesign, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with emphasis on responsible use of AIYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field with 4+ years of software engineering experience5+ years of professional software development experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-grade applications3+ years of experience developing applications using Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring, or similar enterprise technologies2+ years of experience developing applications using Python and SQL, with demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, and production-quality code2+ years of experience designing and consuming REST APIs, microservices, and integration services1+ years of experience building, integrating, and deploying AI-powered features, automated workflows, or machine learning services/APIs1+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud PlatformPreferred Qualification:Experience with healthcare quality systems, population health platforms, claims data, clinical data, or healthcare analytics solutionsKnowledge of AI/ML concepts and experience integrating AI-powered features, automation capabilities, or machine learning services into enterprise applicationsExperience developing cloud-native applications using containerization technologies such as Docker and KubernetesFamiliarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and scalable application design patternsStrong understanding of software engineering best practices including code reviews, testing strategies, secure coding, and performance optimizationExperience with Azure services, data platforms, monitoring tools, and enterprise integration frameworksExperience contributing to technical design discussions and implementing scalable solutions based on architectural guidanceExperience supporting production applications, troubleshooting issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actionsFamiliarity with Generative AI, LLM-powered solutions, or AI-assisted development toolsExperience with CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, source control, and DevOps practicesExperience working within Agile/Scrum development environmentsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex production issuesDemonstrated ability to mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices*All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment.
