Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit at a Level II Trauma facility in Bismarck, ND, requiring at least 2 years of experience and an active ND or Compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Oncology unit in a Level II Trauma hospital
• 31-bed unit serving adults and geriatric patients
• Common diagnoses include stroke, HTN, COPD, cellulitis, CHF, A-fib (non-RVR), chest pain, post-ICU MI, AMS/behavioral, and surgical overflow
• Unit also functions as a stroke unit — stroke cases present, though thrombectomies are not performed here
• Oncology patients are present; core staff administer chemotherapy (no oncology provider in house during the day)
• Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5
• RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include Lasix and Heparin
• Stable BiPAP and established trach patients with blow-by oxygen are managed on this unit
• Telemetry monitoring is available; monitor techs read and interpret strips — RNs are not required to independently read strips
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and serves as a resource; typically carries no patient assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available at a 1:8 ratio
• Charting is performed in Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour day shifts, 0700–1930
• Every other weekend requirement
• Holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travelers are first to float; floating is to other Med/Surg units, with occasional ER holds — no mother/baby floating
• When floating to a tele unit, a tele RN will manage strip interpretation
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with trach and BiPAP preferred but not required
• Lasix drip titration experience preferred but not required
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Valid driver's license required for consideration

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility — including CHI or Dignity — within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• RTO requests of 7 days or fewer for the 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
• Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts on the floor
• Block scheduling may be considered if unit needs are met; the manager creates the schedule
• No specific scrub color required
