Respiratory Therapist - MGH Boston

Massachusetts General Hospital – Boston Seeking career orientated respiratory therapists with solid knowledge of adult respiratory care disease processes, exceptional critical thinking skills, and independent work habits. The Massachusetts General Hospital Respiratory Care Department is a world-renowned leader within the field of respiratory care. Respiratory therapists function as clinical consultants and are primarily focused on providing extensive respiratory care practices throughout the institution. They provide all aspects of mechanical ventilation including NPPV and HFOV, as well as monitoring and managing patients with various artificial airways. Clinical assignments include adult, pediatric and neonatal ICU's, the Acute Respiratory Care Ventilator Unit, the Emergency/Trauma Room and general care areas. MGH respiratory therapists administer nitric oxide, Heliox, aerosolized antibiotics, assist with bronchoscopies, and percutaneous tracheostomy insertions and are members of Rapid Response, Code and Trauma Teams. Neonatal/pediatric respiratory therapists administer surfactant, respond to high-risk deliveries and perform endotracheal intubations. The ECMO respiratory therapists initiate, manage and wean both adult and neonatal/pediatric ECMO cases. Our staff members are actively involved in clinical research projects. Comprehensive 12‑week new employee orientation with preceptors, classes & equipment labs. The department offers ongoing in‑service education programs with advanced training in pediatric and neonatal critical care, as well as Extra‑Corporeal Life Support (ECMO). Education Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and Credentials Basic Life Support (BLS) – preferred Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) – preferred Neonatal Resuscitation Certification (NRP) – American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) – preferred Respiratory Therapist – Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care – preferred Respiratory Care Practitioner – State License – generic – HR Only – preferred Experience Respiratory Care 0–1 year preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to be a subject matter expert in Respiratory Therapy and communicate effectively with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines. Ability to assess quickly and offer professional judgment to prepare appropriate care plan, and make specific recommendations to physicians for indicated therapy. Strong communication skills. Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 pounds. May also be required to stand immobile for long periods of time.
