What impact you'll have: This is a hands‑on Electrical Engineering opportunity, not a Data Engineering focus. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer who combines facility scale power systems expertise with hands‑on rack and skid level delivery experience. You will lead the electrical design, manufacturing validation and commissioning of modular data center (MDC) infrastructure for hyperscale customers – translating evolving high density AI compute requirements into practical power architectures from 33 kV utility intake through to liquid cooled GPU rack busway. You will act as an Electrical SME across multi‑disciplinary teams, OEM suppliers and global project sites, with a bias for execution and a track record of delivering complex multi‑MW builds on schedule. What you’ll do: Lead end-to-end electrical design of modular datacenter power systems: MV/LV distribution (11-22 kV transformers, 480V/415V switchboards), UPS systems (2N/2(N+1)), and diesel generator paralleling for multi‑MW AI compute loads. Define and specify rack and row level power distribution including busbar systems (48V/400V/800V DC or low voltage AC), current ratings, clearances, creepage, short‑circuit withstand, thermal units, and insulation requirements. Act as Electrical SME on modular skid and E‑house design; produce one‑line and three‑line diagrams, point‑to‑point schematics, harnessing drawings and full BOM for all electrical systems. Size, select and support procurement of switchgear, UPS, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, PDUs, busway, RPPs, conductors, conduit, and control systems; evaluate DFM/cost trade‑offs with suppliers. Collaborate with mechanical and thermal teams to ensure electrical layouts are compatible with high‑density liquid cooling architecture (CDUs, manifolds, cold plates), including cable/busbar proximity to high‑heat and high‑flow components. Model load flows, fault levels, protection coordination, arc flash hazard, and grid transient compliance using ETAP, SKM, or equivalent; apply Uptime Institute Tier III/IV methodology to availability calculations. Define and validate protection and selectivity strategy (breakers, fuses, protective relays) across the full distribution chain; specify telemetry and controls requirements including metering, waveform capture, breaker/relay status, UPS and battery health, and CDU/coolant alarms. Drive compliance with NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEC View phone number on click.appcast.io, UL, IEEE, and OCP/ORV3 standards; manage AHJ submissions and support permit processes. Lead vendor qualification for busbar, switchgear, UPS, and rack power OEMs; review shop drawings, ITP documents, and FAT/SAT procedures; witness first‑of‑kind quality inspections at vendor facilities. Author integrated systems test (IST) and commissioning plans; lead HV/LV energization witnessing; support burn‑in, reliability, and interoperability testing for rack deployments. Conduct DFMEA/FMEA and design reviews covering failure modes such as loose connections, hot spots, arcing, and coolant‑leak interaction; lead risk assessments and corrective action tracking. Generate and maintain design documentation: specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), test plans, as‑built drawings, O&M procedures, spare parts registers, and IOM manuals. Provide technical input to sales and proposal teams on bid tabs, cost estimates, and customer‑facing specifications; represent Submer in technical discussions with hyperscale customers and OEM partners. Drive continuous improvement of MDC reference designs; contribute to PUE/WUE optimisation and energy efficiency targets. What you’ll need Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution 8+ years in electrical power systems; at least 3–5 years in datacenter, HPC, or modular/critical facility delivery Demonstrated delivery of 10 MW+ datacenter or industrial power projects from design through commissioning Experience working with external hardware suppliers (rack, PDU, switchgear, busway vendors), including reviewing designs and driving interface changes Strong MV/LV distribution, UPS, generator paralleling, and busbar design expertise Proficiency in ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or equivalent power systems analysis software Proficiency in ECAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical) for schematics, one‑lines, and layouts Arc flash analysis and protection coordination to NFPA 70E / IEEE 1584 Hands‑on lab testing: hi‑pot, insulation resistance, ground‑bond, load, and temperature‑rise testing Ability to read and produce detailed 3D/CAD modular construction drawings Preferred qualifications Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field Professional Engineer (PE) license, EIT certification, or international equivalent (IEng / CEng) Direct experience with hyperscale customers (AWS, Azure, Google, Meta, Oracle, OpenAI) or embedded as an infrastructure engineer at one Hands‑on experience with high‑density GPU/AI rack architectures (30–120+ kW/rack) and liquid cooling component integration (CDUs, manifolds, cold plates, immersion systems) Background in busbar trunking systems, tap‑off units, or high‑current DC distribution (48V/400V/800V) in datacenters or industrial plants Familiarity with OCP/ORV3 rack standards and EIA‑310 form factors Experience with BMS, EPMS, DCIM, SCADA, PLCs, protective relays, waveform capture, or data historians Exposure to lithium‑ion BESS as UPS replacement or grid backup; knowledge of utility interconnection and demand response Estimating and bid tabulation experience; ability to contribute to proposals and customer‑facing technical deliverables Familiarity with reliability and quality processes: DFMEA/PFMEA, HALT/HASS concepts, and design validation plans NICET, NETA ETT, Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer, or OSHA 30 certifications are a plus What we offer Attractive compensation package reflecting your expertise and experience.
