Part-Time Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in Lactation Medicine and Breastfeeding Care

We are seeking a compassionate, highly skilled, and collaborative Part-Time Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) with expertise in Lactation Medicine and Breastfeeding Care to join a specialized breast health and lactation practice. This APP will provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of breastfeeding and lactation-related conditions across the continuum of maternal and infant care.

Working in close partnership with a surgeon specializing in lactation and breast health, the APP will practice with a high degree of autonomy while serving as a key clinical collaborator within this niche specialty practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical knowledge of lactation medicine, breastfeeding management, maternal breast conditions, and infant feeding challenges, with the ability to independently assess, diagnose, treat, prescribe medications, and order appropriate diagnostic testing and imaging.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluate and manage patients presenting with lactation and breastfeeding concerns.
  • Conduct comprehensive maternal and infant assessments related to feeding, milk production, breast health, and breastfeeding goals.
  • Diagnose and manage a broad range of lactation-related conditions, including but not limited to: mastitis, breast abscesses, plugged ducts, galactoceles, nipple and breast pain, hyperlactation and oversupply, low milk supply, lactation failure, engorgement, nipple trauma, breastfeeding-related infections, weaning concerns, postpartum breast conditions.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans that support evidence-based breastfeeding and lactation care.
  • Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions as clinically appropriate and within scope of practice.
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic studies, including: breast ultrasound, mammography when appropriate, laboratory testing, additional imaging or diagnostic evaluations as indicated.
  • Coordinate care with primary care providers, pediatricians, obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, lactation consultants, radiology, and surgical specialists.

Collaborative Practice

  • Partner closely with the supervising/collaborating breast surgeon to provide integrated, multidisciplinary care.
  • Participate in collaborative case review and treatment planning for complex lactation and breast health cases.
  • Identify patients requiring surgical consultation or intervention and facilitate timely referrals.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of a specialized lactation medicine program.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university.
  • Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.

Licenses and Certifications

  • PA - Physician Assistant State Licensure and
  • BLS - Basic Life Support and
  • DEA - Drug Enforcement Administration

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $89.01 - $117.94 per hour
