Agency Dept of Health and Human Services Division J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center Job Classification Title Behavior Analyst (S) Position Number 60048734 Grade MH16 About Us The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. Description of Work The Psychology Department provides comprehensive behavior analysis and psychological services to residents of J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. These services include, but are not limited to, behavioral assessment and treatment, staff training and management in the provision of behavior support services, participation with the Interdisciplinary Team, and consultation with other Center staff. The Psychology Department also provides clinical and management consultant services to outside individuals, groups and agencies serving people with intellectual disorders and related developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder. Once licensed as a Behavior Analyst through the NCBALB, this position can function independent of licensed psychologist oversight, otherwise while under the direction of a licensed psychologist, this position is considered an ancillary position that provides a range of assessment and treatment services to approximately 25 residents with significant intellectual disorders and related developmental disabilities. Services include providing behavior assessments; participating in interdisciplinary team processes; planning, developing and evaluating treatment programs; and providing staff training. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a systematic approach for influencing socially important behavior through the identification of reliably related environmental variables and the production of behavior change techniques that make use of those findings. Behavior analysts study how biological, pharmacological, and experiential factors influence behavior and assist the interdisciplinary team in understanding these relationships through their assessment and data. Licensed behavior analysts are qualified to provide services to residents with a variety of needs, including improvements in organizational functioning, skill deficits, and problem behavior (e.g., aggression, self-injurious behavior), among others. They provide services consistent with the dimensions of ABA that may include, but are not limited to, conducting functional behavior assessments and analyses, developing data collection systems and analyzing data, writing and revising behavior-analytic treatment plans, training others to implement components of treatment plans, and overseeing the implementation of treatment plans, direct service, staff training and/or parent training, and may supervise paraprofessionals, including Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts, Behavioral Programming Specialists and other ancillary service staff as assigned.
