Wastewater Utility Operator

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Checks pH levels of all wastewater streams to verify Wastewater Treatment plant is operating within specification; notifies supervisor if problems arise
• Makes routine Wastewater Treatment plant system checks and responds to all associated alarms during shift
• Cleans and calibrates pH probes; uses washing, acid cleaning and/or silicate cleaning procedures as required (records data as necessary)
• Monitors and records data on all utilities to insure they are operating properly in support of operations including, but is not limited to, wastewater, air dryer, DI water system, cooling tower, and all other on-site utilities
• Checks acid and caustic rates and water quality of the DI water system
• Initiates purchase order for parts and supplies as necessary for the operation of the various utilities
• Performs PMs on wastewater systems
• Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
• Hazardous chemical experience – caustics and acids, required
• Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and maintain equipment including automated valves, performance pumps, MAG Drive pumps, agitator/gear box (for oil), and wastewater auto sampler, required
• Control system experience and basic electrical experience, required
• Experience unloading trucks, as well as connecting/disconnecting chemical drums, required
• Availability for off shift coverage to support needs including emergency response, required
• Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must bend and twist on a regular basis. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to walk upstairs and or steps.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Compensation details: 26-28 Hourly Wage
