Key Responsibilities Clinical & Medical Oversight Attending Veterinarian: Act as the “Attending Veterinarian” for the program and actively participate in all IACUC meetings. Patient Care: Examine patients for medical necessities, review diagnostic testing, and communicate abnormalities to partner rescues. Medical Authority: Provide all final medical decisions for patients and perform necessary medical procedures within the program. Compliance & DEA: Maintain the campus DEA license and controlled substance logs, strictly monitoring supply levels and expiration dates. Regulatory Standards: Ensure all medical records are complete and in full compliance with AVMA and USDA standards. Instructional Excellence Classroom & Lab: Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, practical demonstrations, and daily lesson plans. Competency Tracking: Monitor hands‑on lab competencies and confirm student skill levels on certification checklists. Student Success: Maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes and implement retention plans to support struggling students. Administration: Maintain accurate student grades and prepare final evaluations at the end of each course sequence. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduate of an AVMA-accredited institution with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Licensure: Must hold an active, unrestricted license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Texas (or be eligible to obtain one prior to start).
