The VAT nurse will be responsible for a variety of responsibilities including performing comprehensive vascular assessments, insert and manage peripheral IVs/midlines/PICC lines using ultrasound guidance and aseptic technique, respond to VAT consults across ICU, PCU, Med/Surg, Maternal Child Health, and ED, monitor and troubleshoot vascular access devices for patency/infection/mechanical issues, educate patient and staff, maintain accurate documentation, adhere to infection control protocols and hospital policies, participate in quality improvement initiatives, serve as a resource and mentor to nursing staff regarding vascular access best practices, and collaborate with leadership to grow and enhance the hospitals vascular access program.

We prefer this position holder to have a current Vascular Access Certification (VA-BC) and prefer a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with a strong preference in vascular access experience. The VAT RN needs to be proficient in ultra-sound guided vascular access, have the ability to make strong clinical judgements, and have excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred. Education: The Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
• Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
