Job Purpose
Alamance County Department of Social Services is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Social Worker to join our In Home Services Unit. This is a vital, front-line role for professionals who are passionate about protecting vulnerable children and strengthening families. In this position, the Social Worker provides in-home services and serves as a primary protector and advocate for children under the age of 18. The work is fast-paced, meaningful, and impactful-requiring thoughtful assessment, decisive action, and compassionate engagement with families during some of their most critical moments. This Social Worker develops and implements family case plans, and collaborates with families, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams to promote safety, permanency, and well-being. This role demands strong professional judgment, resilience, and a commitment to ethical, family-centered practice. Successful candidates will bring a strong foundation in social work principles, methods, and best practices, with the ability to apply theory to complex and high-risk situations. This position requires a working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and Child Welfare policies, as well as a deep understanding of family systems, group and individual behavior, and the medical, behavioral, and psychosocial factors that impact child safety and family functioning. Within this position the worker would provide in home services and have the primary purpose of providing protection for children under 18 years of age and disabled adults under 21 years of age who are alleged to be abused and/or neglected by their parents or caretaker and/or are dependent.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to complex casework, treatment and investigation of abuse or neglect of children; thorough knowledge of policies and procedures as evidenced by the ability to cite the authority of federal and state law; thorough knowledge of individual and group behavior family dynamics, medical, behavioral and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory.
Responsibilities
Qualifications Education & Experience: Master's degree from an accredited school of social work (Child Welfare Collaborative), Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; a bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work (Child Welfare Collaborative) plus one year social work or counseling experience ; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or Master's degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or a related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A copy of a certified college transcript and a letter of reference must be provided upon request. Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint Experience). License/Credentials: Possession of a valid N.C. driver's license is required for this position and maintaining a driving record in accordance with Alamance County policy.
Other Position Information: This position is subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.

Life Insurance - Basic term life insurance is the amount of one times the annual salary (no greater than $70,000) is provided for all FT employees. Additional coverage is available for purchase through payroll deductions for employee and eligible dependents.
Retirement Benefits - Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed.
Time Off Accruals:
Vacation Time - Annual Leave is accrued based on years of service. Employees can accrue from 10-25 days per year.
Sick Time - All County full time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
County Observed Holidays - Alamance County will observe the State of North Carolina Holiday Schedule.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for initiating and conducting Family and Investigative Assessments.
- Responds to a myriad of requests from all areas of child welfare including: follow-up home visits for assessments, in-home services and foster care cases.
- Responsible for initiating Adult Protective Services and Adult Services cases and follow-up contacts at homes or facilities.
- Transports clients safely and responsibly.
- Prepares investigative reports for the court, case record, narratives for all contacts made during the investigation and treatment plans effectively and efficiently.
- Responsible for court preparation and testimony as an expert witness for court cases and hearings.
- Works with the public who at times may not agree with the laws, rules or policies of the process or the program and must motivate and interact for the safety of all involved.
