OverviewSteampunk is seeking an AI Governance Analyst to operationalize a compliant AI governance capability for a large federal client, translating federal AI policy into day-to-day processes and maintaining the program's AI use case inventory and risk tracking.ContributionsOperationalize an AI Governance Framework, translating federal guidance (Executive Orders, OMB directives, agency guidance) into governance processes, checklists, and workflowsBuild and maintain an AI Use Case Inventory categorized by solution type, lifecycle stage, and risk tier — capturing accountable owner, human-override model, and failure response for each use case — supporting assessment of use cases and clearance of productionSupport development and maintenance of governance documentation artifacts such as model cards, system documentation, and risk assessmentsMaintain a living Mandate Compliance Matrix, AI governance dashboards, and an incident/issue tracker, including OKR and token-usage trackingSupport the AI Compliance and Risk Management Plan, addressing bias identification/monitoring, data handling/retention, safeguards against unauthorized access, and non-discrimination confirmation (Title VII, ADA, ADEA)Support periodic audits of deployed/production AI use cases to confirm continued complianceMonitor policy trends and regulatory updates to keep governance processes current with evolving federal AI requirementsContribute to reusable governance templates, checklists, and tools supporting program-wide consistencySupport agency responses to oversight data calls and draft agency-specific AI policy at client requestDocument minimum annual mission value and deliver quarterly portfolio prioritization recommendations (scale, consolidate, or retire)QualificationsAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearanceBachelor's degree, preferably in Public Policy, Computer Science, Data Ethics, Cybersecurity, Law, or a related field5+ years of AI governance, risk, or compliance experience (policy/process focus, not AI system development)Demonstrated experience translating regulatory/policy guidance into operational checklists and workflowsFamiliarity with the NIST AI Risk Management FrameworkUnderstanding of responsible AI principles (fairness, transparency, explainability, privacy, bias mitigation) and model risk management conceptsWorking knowledge of machine learning and generative AI concepts sufficient to assess governance and risk implications (not hands-on model development)Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate policy requirements into actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical stakeholdersStrong documentation and inventory-management skillsPreferred:Federal AI policy experience (OMB, HHS, or comparable agency guidance)Experience supporting AI bias/fairness assessment or model risk documentationMaster's degree in a related fieldExperience working within an Agile delivery environmentRelevant certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPT, or CRISCAbout steampunkSteampunk relies on several factors to determine salary, including but not limited to geographic location, contractual requirements, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $95,000 to $125,000. The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
