As a Security Officer, you'll play a critical role in keeping patients, visitors, staff, and UPMC facilities safe and secure. In this role, you'll maintain a visible security presence, respond to situations with professionalism and care, and deliver excellent customer service—all while being part of a team dedicated to safety, service, and community.ResponsibilitiesStaff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areasEstablish a uniformed security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, and associated areas to deter criminal activityProvide exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff to promote a safe and secure environmentInspect incoming and outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theftRespond to and help resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstancesMonitor security, fire, and environmental alarms; respond to alarms and assist as necessaryContact UPMC Police Officers or other appropriate law enforcement when requiredAssist with traffic control and provide vehicle assistance as neededConduct patient escorts and provide standby detailsTransport deceased individuals to the morgue and release bodies from the morgue in accordance with protocolsOperate UPMC vehicles in compliance with all applicable state and local motor vehicle lawsMaintain all required certifications and licensureComplete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelinesReport and document incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards using appropriate reporting toolsEducation, Experience & Core RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious security, military, law enforcement, or criminal justice education or experience is preferredHigh level of integrity and professionalism required for handling sensitive and confidential UPMC informationStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals from all backgrounds and de-escalate potentially combative situationsDemonstrated psychological fitness to manage stress and respond appropriately to potentially dangerous or high-conflict situationsAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingAbility to work under pressure and maintain composure in emergency or crisis situationsAll applicants will be subject to a thorough background investigation and criminal record checkOfficers are required to wear a bullet-resistant vest as part of job dutiesPhysical & Fitness RequirementsMust meet physical fitness standards necessary for the role, including full body movement, strength, and stamina sufficient to:Respond to crisis interventionsAssist with medical emergenciesPerform continuous standing, walking, and other physical demandsMust successfully pass the UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hireMust meet established audio (hearing) and visual standardsLicensure, Certifications & ClearancesNew York State Security Guard License (Unarmed) required under Article 7A of the General Business LawFederal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Record Clearance required every 60 monthsValid Driver's License requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification requiredComprehensive Crisis Management Certification (CCMC) requiredSuccessful completion of a required personality assessment prior to hireRequired Credentials SummaryNew York Unarmed Security Guard LicenseValid Driver's LicenseBLS or CPR CertificationComprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)UPMC Physical Fitness Standard ComplianceUPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran UPMC
