Description

Assumes responsibility for assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities residents in life relationships, activities, care, and development mental training while they are living in a special residential care setting. Monitors and supervises Direct Support staff in the two group homes. Performs other essential duties as requested or required.

Serves as advisor to the Residential Services Supervisor on matters related to the safety, security, and general welfare of residents.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

1. The primary responsibility of the Direct Support Professionals Manager (DSP Manager) is to devote full attention to the care and development of each resident and to provide a family-like environment. Supervises direct support professionals (DSP).

2. The DSP Manager will promote Kindness, Love, Dignity, and Respect among staff and residents.

3. Provides for the physical care and supervision of residents appropriate to their functioning level.

4. Assists in planning and creating opportunities for residents to be involved in integrated community activities.

5. Provides and assists in transportation for residents to and from medical appointments, place(s) of employment, personal appointments, and for recreational and other events.

6. Maintains all resident paperwork, files, books, and information etc. in an orderly, KTC approved manner and is filed within required deadlines. All files must be kept up to compliance standards that are required for licensing.

7. Encourages clients to make friends outside the facility, and to participate in community activities (such as church, social events, movies, etc.) Coordinates and assists, as necessary, with attendance at religious services.

8. Encourages positive social interaction and interpersonal relationships. Accompanies residents and participates, as needed, in leisure time/ recreation activities.

9. Encourages appropriate family involvement by:

a. Assisting in arrangements for visitation,

b. Arranging for residents to visit at home,

c. Assisting in the communication process (i.e. letter writing, telephone calls).

10. Assists clients in handling money and making and keeping appointments when indicated. Responsible for accounting for Resident Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) and maintaining receipts to be furnished to Fiscal Department. Maintains and balances resident funds that are kept in the home. Ensures safe is locked while residents can have access to their funds as they request.

11. Ensures DSP's and residents perform housekeeping chores including regular cleaning. To include floors, restrooms, and bed linens on a regular basis. Oversee the DSP's completion of all tasks to maintain the upkeep of group homes.

12. Completes maintenance requests forms as needed for the home and vehicles. Submit to the RSS immediately. Alerts supervisor or Director if maintenance needs go unmet.

13. As the Medication Assistance Provider, the DSP Manager must ensure that all medications, including PRN medications, have written directions provided by the health care practitioner. The DSP Manager must ensure that a copy of the prescription or order is attached to each client's MAR, is legible, and displays the following information:

a. Name of the medication

b. Prescription number, if applicable

c. Prescribed dosage

d. Specific directions for use, including the medical basis for the medication, time intervals for administration, maximum number of doses, maximum number of days medication should be administered, and conditions under which the health care practitioner should be notified. All Scripts should be current and discontinued medications destroyed following all APD/AHCA protocols.

14. All DSP managers need to maintain state certification to administer medications. All DSP Managers must review each client's MARS at least weekly, to check for issues/errors.

15. Ensure the proper number of medications are available in the home for all our residents that reside in the home. DSP Managers are responsible for ensuring there are refills available and there is no lapse in medication due to insufficient supply on the home.

16. Ensures the timely completion of all annual consents as required by APD/AHCA. This includes medical, financial, and authorizations for the release of information.

17. Promptly and properly attends to residents during seizures and assists in dealing with problematic behavior issues.

18. DSP Managers are responsible for oversight of each client and home they are over. Takes residents shopping and to medical appointments as needed. Ensures med/dental forms are completed and all follow up care is given. Notifies Supervisors and Nursing of any new developments. Turns copies of med/dent forms to the nursing department and to their respective RSS within the required deadlines.

19. Supervises DSP's assisting residents in any aspect of grooming/hygiene if they are unable to perform these activities. Supervises DSP's and assists residents with training programs in health, hygiene and good grooming practices. (i.e. bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, hair care, nail care and shaving). The DSP manager will promote, teach, and encourage clients to be as independent as possible.

20. Follows all formal and informal behavioral management or skill acquisition programs and documents necessary records. Ensure all staff working in the home are also following programs and recording data. Ensures all staff are properly trained with all programs, including retraining prior to their expiration.

21. Provides for and safeguards each resident's right to privacy and advises residents of their rights.

22. Protect each resident's rights and freedoms and maintain the confidentiality of personal information, including but not limited to HIPAA and PHI. Reports violations to Supervisors immediately.

23. Keeps staff information confidential including but not limited to HIPAA and PHI. The DSP Manager will not participate in discussing confidential information and will address any discussion with staff and clients that could occur.

24. Assists each resident in developing attitudes and behavior appropriate to community living.

25. Participates in all mandatory training/retraining programs within required timeframes.

26. Conducts training for staff assigned to the home or requests training from supervisor or nursing. Maintain records of required training records.

27. Coordinates the household routine ensuring that residents participate appropriately in homemaking activities and that they have a suitable schedule.

28. Conducts monthly fire evacuation drills, disaster drills, and tornado drills with proper documentation. Conducts quarterly house meetings with residents reviewing their rights/abuse, grievance procedures, and house rules.

29. Conducts monthly house meetings with all staff.

30. Attends monthly regularly scheduled management meetings.

31. Maintains a safe environment and hazard free environment and provides CPR/first aid as necessary.

32. Avoids any/all abuse, neglect, or exploitation of any resident. Immediately reports any/all abuse, neglect, or exploitation of any resident.

33. Maintains records as directed, also, coordinates/contacts RSS for back-up in cases of vacation, holidays, or sickness.

34. Follows approved menu, substitutions are recorded on the back of the menu. Supervises and assists as necessary in the preparation of meals.

35. Actively involved with on-going assessment of resident progress and document concerns or unusual behavior on KTC "Unusual Incident Report" (UIR) and verbally notifies Supervisor. Submits UIR's into the RSS immediately.

36. Maintains resident activities schedule and allows residents to participate by choice and have a voice in the time activity is scheduled.

37. Shops for groceries on a weekly basis or as needed, and ensures adequate food and snacks are available to residents. Healthy options must be available to all residents including fresh fruit options. Maintains required emergency food and water for hurricane preparedness as required.

38. In conjunction with the RSS, prepares and maintains staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing ratios in accordance with APD/ALF allotted weekly hours. Notify their RSS of all schedule changes. The DSP Manager must get any overtime for any staff approved by the RSS/Director in advance of being authorized.

39. The DSP manager will complete daily/monthly censuses and turn them in by each day/month deadline. When the manager is off, they will assign and hold accountable another staff to complete and turn in daily and/or monthly census reports. All census reports must be completed at the start of each day.
