Monitor Technician - Methodist Cardiac

Overview The Monitor Technician’s functions include observation, identification, documentation and communication of various cardiac rhythms. The Monitor Technician reports these changes to the patient’s assigned nurse and responds to physician inquiries. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma Work Experience: Telemetry, EKG Responsibilities Continuously observe, evaluate, and record cardiac rhythms of telemetry patients. Effectively perform video monitoring of seizure patients. Accurately interpret cardiac rhythms and measure EKG intervals to provide an accurate cardiac rhythm assessment. Recognize dysrhythmias or changes in EKG complex promptly. Monitor Q waves, ST segment, and QT intervals and note changes. Respond to all monitoring outcomes and investigate any interruption in heart‑rhythm reception. Document EKG rhythm strip at the beginning of each shift and all changes in rhythms or EKG complex. Provide concise, complete end‑of‑shift reports and EKG rhythm reports to the RN caring for the patient on telemetry. Report all changes in rhythm and EKG complex to the RN, interact with physicians when inquiries are made, and report any interruption in heart‑rhythm reception. Know the process for renewal of telemetry. Continuously observe patient activity via video monitor, recognize changes in behavior or activity, manipulate the camera for continuous observation, and alert staff of any changes. Ensure proper function of monitoring equipment, maintain adequate supplies, and use troubleshooting techniques to enhance equipment utilization. Be knowledgeable about monitoring systems, use the functions of the system, individualize settings, and maneuver the camera to ensure adequate monitoring of seizure patients. Enter monitoring changes correctly into the computer. Use problem‑solving skills to optimize equipment use or address failure and seek assistance from peers, the Nurse Manager or Biomedical Engineering when needed. Report equipment failures immediately, control equipment and supplies, document and track equipment use, report equipment needs to the Unit Leader, and restock MT supplies as needed. Maintain current knowledge of cardiac monitoring and participate in continuing education, complete certification EKG tests and ongoing recertifications, attend required in‑services, interact with CNS to advance skills, and participate in unit meetings and in‑services. Share information with peers, integrate individual efforts within unity, and perform supportive activities to optimize efficient patient care. Politely and promptly answer all telephone lines, enter changes as appropriate, perform computer entry for orders (including labs, SPD supplies), adapt to changing unit needs, and efficiently respond in a unit crisis. Assists in sitting with patients, maintain open communication, support unit changes with explanation, assist in achieving department goals and objectives, give and receive peer evaluation constructively, and be knowledgeable of quality assurance indicators to improve patient care. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $18.51 per hour – $29.99 per hour. This represents a good‑faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
