Project Control Specialist At Houston Methodist, the Project Control Specialist reports to the Vice President of Capital Planning and is responsible for developing and implementing project controls for all major capital projects. This position develops, monitors, tracks, analyzes, forecasts, and reports on project schedules and budgets for Houston Methodist's major capital construction projects. The Project Control Specialist acts as administrator for the project cost accounting system e-Builder and Project and has oversight and maintenance of the department’s electronic reporting dashboard, analyzing data and reporting project progress. The Project Control Specialist must have strong interpersonal skills, be a self‑starter, confident and self‑motivated, and be able to effectively manage people and drive results without formal influence while creatively solving problems. Additionally, the position partners effectively to implement and lead programs and projects through a multi‑layered, decentralized organization. FLSA Status Exempt Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field, or four years of experience (in addition to minimum work experience required listed below) in lieu of degree Experience Seven years’ experience in a related discipline to include five years of project management and/or project accounting experience of moderate complexity and extended duration Knowledge and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles Strong analytical, financial analysis, and project management skills Strong communication skills oral and written, plus the ability to communicate appropriately with a wide range of people and behavior styles Strong interpersonal skills, a self‑starter, confident in abilities, self‑motivated with the ability to effectively manage people and drive results without formal influence Demonstrates ability to multi‑task and manage multiple functions simultaneously Strong knowledge of tools and most current project management software programs and other industry software Expert spreadsheet skills, word‑processing and presentation software skills including Excel Strong attention to detail and organization & work process management skills Demonstrates excellent judgment, differentiation, and decision‑making among opportunities Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new situations, anticipate needs and excellent planning skills Highly technology‑oriented with ability to rapidly learn new PMIS (Project Management Information Systems) Experience managing invoices and payment applications in digital systems Understanding how project controls support overall organization goals Technical understanding of the construction industry Experience with Workday applications Experience developing and maintaining reporting dashboards utilizing Power BI Assist in PMIS implementation and act as system administrator in vendor onboarding, provide helpdesk support to internal teams and client users, maintain system configuration and data integrity Oversight and support of the construction contract audit process by outside audit firm Support delivery of the project controls services, including capital planning, project funding and setup; cost and commercial management, schedule control, risk management and project close‑out Perform data entry and verification across program systems Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure PMIS governance Essential Functions People Essential Functions Partners effectively to implement and lead programs and projects through a multi‑layered, decentralized organization, navigating through different levels of leadership and perspectives to achieve aligned outcomes Works closely with project managers, client representatives, and the Finance department; develops and holds self and others accountable to detailed project plans Finance Essential Functions Provides support for project pricing and scheduling and analyzes data and reports project progress Maintains and distributes financial reports, forecasts etc.; meets and coordinates with internal stakeholders, including Finance Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies, self‑motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks, utilizes time efficiently and helps other team members Growth/Innovation Essential Functions Offers innovative solutions through participation in performance improvement projects and activities;
