Emergency Care Technician - Irvine Emergency Department

Job Description Primary Duties And Responsibilities The Emergency Care Technician (ECT) performs select technical procedures and tasks, and assists physicians and nurses in direct patient care in the Emergency Department. Technical procedures include:
- EKGs
- Restraint applications
- Removal of foley catheters
- Splint applications
- Crutch/cane training
- Visual acuity examinations
- Measuring and recording vital signs, I&O
- Taking height and weight records
- Performing routine patient admission and discharge duties
- Ensuring patient safety is maintained at all times and is documented
- Performing Clinitek bedside urine test as required (must have annual competency)
- Immediately informing RN of any changes in patient condition
- Communicating pertinent information at shift report with oncoming staff
- Reinforcing patient teaching and reporting patient's questions to RN
- Performing other duties as assigned within scope of practice
- Recent experience as an EMT or Patient Care Assistant or Military Corpsman, preferred.
- Current BLS Certifications required, and
- Either:
- Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification, or
- Completion of EMT course, or
- RN License
- Phlebotomy Certification
