RN - Emergency Department (ED) | Travel Contract

Facility Type: 337-Bed Hospital | Stroke & Chest Pain Center | Non-Trauma | Non-Teaching

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN to join a busy, high-volume ED handling a wide range of patient conditions from critical stabilization to general emergency care . This role requires strong clinical skills, quick decision-making, and adaptability.

Unit Details

Beds: 43
- 8 Behavioral Health (Clinical Decision Unit - not locked)
- Additional overflow/holding beds
Average Volume: ~145 patients/day
Admission Rate: 25-30%
Patient Ratio: 1:3-4 (acuity-based)

Patient Population

General ED cases (Pediatric Geriatric)
Stroke, Acute MI, Respiratory illness
Behavioral Health
Diabetes emergencies
Minor trauma & stabilization for transfer

Requirements (MUST HAVE)

Experience: Minimum 2 years ED experience ( No first-time travelers )
Certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- NIHSS

Core Skills Required

Cardiac rhythm interpretation
Critical care drips management
PIV starts
TNK/TPA administration
Conscious sedation
Emergency response & triage skills

Support Structure

HCT / Unit Secretary (1:8-10)
Paramedics
Charge Nurse (no patient load)
Patient Safety Attendants
Dedicated ED Pharmacist (7 AM - 11 PM)
Social Worker & Scheduler
24/7:
- ED Physicians & APPs
- Hospitalist
- Intensivist
- Respiratory Therapy

Technology & Equipment

EMR: Epic
IV Pumps: Alaris
Medication System: Omnicell
Monitors: Phillips
Additional: Rover Communication, Panda Infant Warmer, LUCAS Device

Floating Requirements (CRITICAL)

Required to float within Region 2 facilities , including:
- Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West
- Freestanding EDs
- Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, Levine Children's)
Mid-shift floating: Paid travel time (on the clock)
Decline if not comfortable with floating

Orientation

New Employee Orientation (NEO)
2 days departmental orientation
