Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) - Inpatient Pediatrics

Role Overview The Child Life Specialist supports pediatric patients and families by providing education, procedural support, therapeutic play, and coping strategies to reduce stress during medical experiences. They collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess psychosocial needs, facilitate family involvement, and assist with grief and bereavement. The specialist uses developmentally appropriate methods to explain medical procedures, promote normalization through play, and implement nonpharmacological pain management techniques. They also develop educational resources, oversee pediatric activities, and mentor students in the field.
