Job Summary The Mosquito Technician’s primary purpose is to provide a quality, professional service. They deliver service with courtesy, safety, and dependability to ensure each customer has a positive experience while preventing the spread of diseases through mosquito control. Responsibilities Routinely inspect control zones for potential mosquito breeding habitat and the presence of mosquito larvae by visual inspection and "dipping". Assess each inspection site and utilize the appropriate control techniques, such as: no action, source reduction, biological control, public education, and chemical control (including the application of larvicides and/or adulticides at the labeled application rates). Place and retrieve monitoring devices to assess mosquito populations. Accurately record all findings and control activities on the appropriate log sheet and GPS unit, and enter data into VDCI’s database as required by the contract. Be thoroughly familiar with all applicable chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and handle / apply all chemicals according to label specifications. Know and follow proper safety and spill procedures at all times, and use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regularly. Communicate respectfully, honestly, and knowledgeably to residents at all times during service request inspections, routine larvicide activities, or other public‑relations activities. Operate all equipment safely and accurately, mixing pesticides and filling sprayers as needed, while following all required safety precautions for product application. React to change promptly and effectively, and handle other essential tasks as assigned. Demonstrate solid reading, writing, and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information in both internal and external settings. Essential Job Functions Comfortable with self‑directed working conditions after a training period. Work performed outdoors and may include exposure to weather conditions, uneven terrain, pesticides, dust, airborne particulates, excessive noise, biting insects, hazardous plants, and wild and domestic animals. Capable of lifting and handling items such as chemical containers and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Safely operate a motor vehicle and keep it, along with all other equipment, clean. Qualifications Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Open to learning and becoming knowledgeable in the area of pest control. High school diploma, GED, related experience, and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess a valid driver’s license from the state of residence. Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to follow instructions for mixing on product labels. Licenses and certificates as required by federal, state, and/or local regulations (covered by the employer). Customer‑facing experience preferred.
