Transportation Maintenance Tech I or II The Texas Department of Transportation's Childress District is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Tech I or II to work in our Munday Maintenance Section. Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Essential duties include assisting in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performing basic welding as needed; assisting in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assisting stranded motorists as required; maintaining highways and rights-of-way; performing roadway repairs; erecting and repairing guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauling materials and equipment to job sites; maintaining picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations; moving/picking up litter and roadway debris; mowing rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performing plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush; operating light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower; performing preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completing various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI; sanding or cleaning bridges and roads, posting warning signs, helping the public and performing other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills; assisting with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications; performing other job responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education: No education required. Experience for Transportation Maintenance Tech (TMT): TMT I = No experience required TMT II = 1 year experience* *Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A" License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.
