Patient Care TechnicianUnder the direct supervision of licensed personnel, the patient care technician performs a variety of routine duties to assist the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care. This position spends the majority of his or her time interacting with, assisting, and supporting our patients. Along with ensuring a safe environment, this position develops with each individual a therapeutic relationship which is critical in the healing process. This position provides general non-technical assistance to the nursing staff. Responsible for the general maintenance of equipment, room and supplies.ResponsibilitiesMaintains the area, equipment, and level of supplies.Performs a variety of assisting and servicing activities, both with the patients and to help maintain the area.Works effectively as part of the health care team to facilitate the unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients in collaboration with licensed personnel.Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the department/division, as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed including: Sitting with patients and sitting with Baker Acted Patients. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of data collected.Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to patients, staff, visitors, and others as part of the organization's commitment to quality services.Maintains current knowledge/certification.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.QualificationsMinimum EducationHigh School Diploma or Equivalent RequiredLicenses and CertificationsBLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association RequiredCertified Patient Care Technician (APCT_ASPT) PreferredRequired Skills, Knowledge and AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively (High proficiency)Must show initiative, maturity, and effectiveness in dealing with peopleWell-groomed in appearanceAppreciation of and desire to be part of a healthcare teamMust be able to return to the hospital/facility within 30 minutes of a Callback.Knowledge of basic medical terminology.Excellent customer service skills.Excellent organizational skills required. (High proficiency)Knowledge of acceptable ranges of blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation and EKG and reports any abnormal values to RN. (Medium proficiency)Ability to document and utilize electronic health record applications.Empathy and excellent listening skills.
