Director, AI Engineering

Role

Director of AI Engineering responsible for building and scaling AI capabilities across drug discovery, clinical development, and manufacturing within a biopharma setting focused on cardiovascular, metabolic, and pulmonary diseases.

Responsibilities

• lead development of production AI applications including generative AI, semantic search, and document intelligence;
• design and optimize a centralized AI platform;
• oversee ML lifecycle, CI/CD, and MLOps practices;
• partner with clinical and scientific teams to automate workflows and enhance data use;
• ensure AI systems meet regulatory and security standards;
• mentor engineering teams, evaluate vendors and models, and contribute hands-on coding.

Requirements

• BA/BS in computer science or related field;
• 8+ years in AI, machine learning, or software engineering;
• proficiency in Python, SQL, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP);
• experience deploying AI in regulated environments;
• demonstrated leadership in technical teams and platform development.

Preferred

• domain-specific experience in clinical trial automation, regulated content, scientific imaging, or healthcare data;
• familiarity with GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and clinical study workflows.

• focus on life sciences/clinical AI applications, regulated content management, and integration with scientific data;
• remote with monthly onsite presence in South San Francisco, 10-20% travel.
