Psychiatrist

Psychiatrist PositionProvides routine and emergent psychiatric care to University of Chicago students. Consults with multidisciplinary Mental Health Services (MHS) and Student Wellness (SW) staff, in accordance with privileges approved by the credentials committee, to identify and manage mental health problems.Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations; prescribing psychiatric medications as indicated; ordering and interpreting laboratory studies as indicated; providing psychiatric follow-up care. Follows SW policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statues, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA. Maintains a collaborative consultation relationship with and reports to the SW Chief Psychiatrist. Maintains accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations. Participates in routine workday call rotation. Provides formal and informal consultation to MHS clinical staff and trainees. Attends and participates in multi-disciplinary case conferences and psychiatric staff meetings. Provides campus-based services and consultation to internal and external constituents, which may necessitate being on campus in the evening or over the weekend. Participates in MHS peer review and quality improvement activities. Serves on MHS committees as assigned. Actively pursues required knowledge and skills for professional development. Provides healthcare and patient services including educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support. Gathers pertinent health information and provides comprehensive direct patient care with moderate guidance and direction from others. Formulates a plan of care and educational needs in collaboration with the patient, family, physician, nursing staff, and other members of the health care team. Maintains patient records. Performs other related work as needed.Minimum qualifications include a college or university degree in a related field and 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Preferred qualifications include a doctoral degree in medicine, accredited residency in psychiatry completed before start date, experience in a university counseling center or with young adults treating mood, anxiety, and adjustment disorders, and providing couple counseling and crisis management. Board certified or board-eligible in psychiatry before start date, medical license in Illinois within six months of start date. Preferred competencies include ability to interview and obtain medical information, demonstrated knowledge and experience with prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications, comprehensive knowledge of laws and ethical principles related to the practice of psychiatry in a university setting, willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number, willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, strong organizational skills, demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skill, demonstrated experience working with a wide array of presenting problems and an affinity for working in a multidisciplinary team.Working conditions include being privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date, clinical care setting in ambulatory wellness center, direct patient contact or clinical care setting, office environment, on-call responsibilities, high stress environment, ability to sit for up to 2 hours at a time, ability to use computers extensively for up to 2 hours at a time, ability to use standard computer and office equipment.Application documents include resume, cover letter, and list of 3 references.
