After completion, you will use a wide range of filler metals and welding processes to perform structural and pipe welds in all phases of ship construction. You will use various processes including SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW to produce tack, fillet, and full‑penetration welds on steel foundations and pipe joints in production on aircraft carriers and submarines. Welds will be made in all positions using manual and mechanized processes and must meet nondestructive test requirements (visual, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, radiographic). You will also receive additional training in visual inspection, fire watch, carbon arcing, and troubleshooting minor equipment problems. Qualifications At least one year of pipe welding experience. Ability to take measurements or willingness to learn. Readiness to work any assigned shift as production needs. Willingness to work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces. Capability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb. Ability to lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test. Capacity to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions. Ability to pass a Physical Agility Test. Capability to perform overhead work. Willingness to work overtime as needed. Willingness to undergo a background investigation and drug screening. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
