Position Overview The College and Career Readiness Teacher works primarily with 11th‑grade students in the College and Career Readiness (CCR) course, helping them reach their full potential on the SAT and in college applications. The teacher will instruct SAT strategy and content, provide lessons on college admissions, career options, and personal‐statement writing, and support the Manager in planning and executing both mock and official SAT exams. Responsibilities Plan and deliver lessons focused on College Knowledge, Career Success, socio‑emotional learning, and SAT instruction in Math and Evidence‑Based Reading & Writing. Differentiating and aligning daily instruction based on data. Assist with after‑school and summer SAT Prep classes. Support the Student College and Career Ambassador Program. Infuse joy and a passion for excellence into the junior CCR course. Motivate and invest students and families in the CCR Course and college entrance exams through relationship building and strong communication. Maintain grades and attendance in PowerSchool for students. Assist with mock and official exams on five Saturdays throughout the year. Plan and chaperone a junior college trip. Teach an Advisory class of no more than 15 students. Support a team of college counselors as they begin to work with juniors by monitoring the classroom and providing additional assistance as needed. Fully engage in weekly PLC meetings, adding to the agenda, analyzing data, and actively brainstorming and action‑planning solutions. Commit to constant professional and personal growth through close work with the Manager of College and Career Readiness and attendance at professional development trainings and conferences. Constantly assess student progress and communicate results to families and colleagues. Assist the Manager of College and Career Readiness with projects as they arise. Model the school’s values in all communications with students, families, staff, and outside organizations. Qualifications Strong interpersonal skills contributing to a collegial working environment and exhibiting character traits such as zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and humor. A passion for being part of a team‑oriented, mission‑driven school culture. Demonstrated experience teaching or tutoring in English or Math disciplines. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Demonstrated experience working with low‑income, first‑generation college‑bound students and their families from diverse socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Exhibit a “whatever it takes” mentality and adapt easily to changes. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑ and goal‑driven environment. Fast learner who welcomes feedback. Flexibility, strong work ethic, and an entrepreneurial spirit to support a growing, constantly improving team with responsibility for ensuring over 85% of seniors matriculate to college. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year educational institution. Minimum of three years of relevant work experience, preferably working with large groups of students. Compensation and Benefits KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $70,829 to $136,704, determined by an equitable compensation scale that considers experience, certification, and longevity within the KIPP network.
