Location Tacoma, WA Shift Schedule 0.5 FTE, 20 hours per week: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday twice per month (Weekend Shift differential eligible). Options for legal/ID protection and more. Job Summary Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams in accordance with ARDMS standards and ethics. Complies with company policies, regulatory changes, and safety standards while maintaining patient and physician care. Responsibilities include patient interaction, technical ultrasound skill, imaging acquisition, and documentation. Essential Job Functions Prepare patients for ultrasound exams, explaining procedures and instructions. Obtain thorough patient history related to the exam. Review patient charts and physician requests to determine optimal scanning parameters. Verify patient consent and understanding of risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow‑up. Implement physician orders accurately. Perform breast examinations with accuracy. Present ultrasound findings to the radiologist professionally. Assist patients onto scanning tables, position them and the equipment, and utilize appropriate ultrasound devices, frequencies, and transducers. Ensure patient immobilization as required. Complete examinations in a timely manner. Follow and document scan protocols or radiologist prescriptions without error. Evaluate image quality and ensure proper recording. Prepare informed consent for and assist radiologist with interventional procedures (needle localization, aspiration, biopsy). Practice aseptic techniques as needed. Review completed studies with radiologist as applicable. Complete all documentation, paperwork, imaging, and archiving to maintain patient files without omissions. Maintain accurate records of patient information. Present high‑quality images and pertinent history to the radiologist. Communicate clearly with patients, physicians, coworkers, and supervisors. Use excellent customer service skills with patients and families. Perform computer functions related to patient exams (PACS and EPIC). Keep work area and exam stations neat and stocked with supplies. Participate in orientation and in‑service training. Maintain a professional demeanor, confidentiality, and minimal absences. Cooperate and maintain rapport with coworkers to ensure proper patient care. Travel to other sites, if required. Check work e‑mail daily. Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA and facility policy. Follow exposure control plans for blood‑borne and airborne pathogens. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Work Experience: Graduate from an accredited diagnostic ultrasound program (required). ARDMS registry eligible; Abdomen & OB/GYN preferred. Breast, vascular, MSK, NT, and pediatric registries a plus/preferred. Current BLS certification required. Job Knowledge & Skills: Perform a variety of examinations pertaining to the abdomen and pelvis. Perform OB (1st‑3rd trimester) biophysical profiles, small parts (including breast, scrotal, thyroid). Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physics, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology; apply precautions respecting ultrasound and tissue interactions. Be thorough, accurate, use sound judgment, and possess good time‑management skills. Show sincere interest in every patient, demonstrating sympathy and empathy for claustrophobic or special‑needs patients. Use appropriate communication style, language, and volume in the clinic. Recognize urgent or emergent findings. Demonstrate effective customer‑service skills (AIDET/4 As). Work effectively in teamwork and maintain respectful behavior. Communicate professionally with other medical facilities, patients, and customers. Manage multiple tasks and carry out instructions effectively. Possess excellent verbal communication and organization skills. Physical Requirements: Moderate physical demands; assist patients of varying weight. Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods. Reach with hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Mental Requirements: High attention to detail and ability to handle mentally stressful situations. Maintain high sensitivity toward confidential information. Working/Environmental Conditions: Normal office or administrative conditions. Possible exposure to communicable diseases; limited exposure to ionizing radiation.
