The Senior Human Resources Generalist provides guidance on avariety of human resource activities and manages complex human resource-relatedissues within a designated portfolio. This position will play a crucialrole in fulfilling staffing needs, with a focus on J-1 visa processing for the unitswith the Illinois Global Institute. For an overview of the typicalresponsibilities associated with the position, please review the Senior HRGeneralist role overview here: Job Summary The Senior HR Generalist manages a variety of human resource activities, provides strategic guidance on a variety of human resource activities, and manages complex human resource related issues. Duties & Responsibilities Appointments Management Responsible for managing employee appointments and records, and the interaction between multiple types of appointments to result in appropriate pay and employee status information. Enters routine and non-routine data, pulls routine and non-routine reports, developing new reports as needed. Ensures accuracy of input data, resolves any discrepancies, considers long-term data retention and data integrity. Participate in appropriate systems testing and provides feedback. Job Classification & Analysis Oversees job classification and analysis processes for designated groups. Assists with the development of internal-to-unit classification strategies. Provides expertise on job analysis and evaluation. Identify out-of-scope duties and recommend title changes based on overall responsibilities, as appropriate. HR Compliance & Policy Ensures adherence to HR policies and legal requirements through tracking, training, and internal reviews. May develop and implement internal compliance strategies. Provides expertise on HR policies and legal requirements. Attend IGI-specific committee meetings as requested May develop IGI specific HR related trainings Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a fieldcloselyrelated to the position. Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of three years of progressive work experience that demonstrates strong ability to research, interpret and make recommendations based on HR policy. Visa experience. Experience working in a union environment and interpreting contract language. Experience with common computer applications and demonstrated ability to learn new programs. Experience providing human resources support and coordination at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. Experience in documentation, training, search and hire practices, work authorizations, and/or appointments processing. Project management training and/or experience working on HR information systems projects. Proven track record of customer service to a broad range of clients Results oriented with strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects Ability to easily shift between projects and tasks Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality Ability to communicate effectively with others; meticulous attention to detail; strong problem-solving skills Ability to work well within a team Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a broad range of invested parties Commitment to creating an inclusive environment Ability to discern the level of inquiry, priority or issue for escalation, or to seek guidance for clarification or assistance Working knowledge of University and Campus policies related to Human Resources, including but not limited to those listed inthe Campus Administrative Manual, Provost's Communications, and Policies and Rules Knowledge of ISTART visa application processing for international faculty and scholars, BANNER, HRFE, Cornerstone, JDxpert,I-9 Tracker, ANA, PARIS, and Webi or the ability to swiftly learn and adapt to multiple technology application platforms Working knowledge of University of Illinois business and human resources policies and procedures Familiarity with human resources management principles, theories and concepts Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $63,000-71,000. The final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment ofavailable market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience andqualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, after an on-site training period, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
