Archaeological Crew ChiefLocation: Fort Stockton, Texas Pay: $30–$35 per hour, based on experience plus per diem Schedule: Initial 12-day field session in mid-to-late August; anticipated long-term work beginning in November Positions Available: Approximately 10 Overtime: Expected Lodging: Company-provided hotel accommodations Transportation: Company-arranged rental vehicle for transporting assigned crewJob OverviewWe are seeking experienced Archaeological Crew Chiefs for a large cultural resource survey supporting a power-generation and data-center development outside Fort Stockton, Texas. The project area covers approximately 90,000 acres.Crew Chiefs will supervise field technicians during an initial 12-day survey session in August covering approximately 7,000–10,000 acres. The project is expected to resume in November and continue for approximately seven to eight months.ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise an assigned archaeological field crewCoordinate daily pedestrian survey, shovel testing and site-recording activitiesAssign work and monitor crew productivity, documentation and safetyEnsure technicians complete approximately 10 shovel tests per day when field conditions permitReview field forms, site records, photographs, GPS data and maps for accuracyIdentify archaeological resources and guide site delineation and documentationTrain technicians on regional artifact identification, soils and field proceduresCommunicate daily progress, discoveries, safety concerns and staffing needs to project leadershipOperate a company-arranged rental vehicle and transport assigned crew membersEnsure the crew follows project, client and regulatory requirementsQualificationsBachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology or a closely related field required; graduate degree preferredSeveral years of archaeological field experiencePrevious experience as a Crew Chief, Field Director or equivalent archaeological field leader requiredStrong experience with pedestrian survey, shovel testing, site recording and crew supervisionWest Texas, New Mexico or broader Southwest experience strongly preferredKnowledge of regional archaeological resources, soils and artifact typesStrong field documentation, communication and quality-control skillsAbility to manage a crew in remote and physically demanding conditionsValid driver's license and acceptable driving record requiredAbility to work overtime and an extended rotation scheduleProject ScheduleThe initial assignment will last approximately 12 days in August. The project is anticipated to resume in November on a 10-days-on, four-days-off rotation with approximately 10-hour workdays. The long-term phase is expected to last seven to eight months.
