Perinatal Imaging Specialist

Position Overview Department: 02255 AMG Oak Lawn 4400 W 95th POB - OB/GYN: Maternal and Fetal Medicine. Status: Part time. Hours per week: 20. Schedule: Rotating weekdays. Pay range: $44.15 - $66.25. Major Responsibilities Perform comprehensive non‑invasive, invasive and vascular procedures to demonstrate OB/GYN anatomy under investigation. Provide physiologic assessment of OB/GYN vasculature and fetal well‑being. Independently produce technically optimal, complete and accurate images for diagnosis of high‑risk OB/GYN patients. Combine clinical history while performing sonographic study to summarize findings; upon completion document information/action to the appropriate physician. Assist physicians during invasive procedures (amniocentesis, sonohysterograms, endometrial biopsies, chorionic villi sampling) and document patient history and results of study. Review patient history using clinical information from charts and verbal patient interview. Summarize findings and enter them onto the Perinatal computer network. Notify the appropriate physician of the summary of findings. Display competent understanding and operation of ultrasound equipment. Report equipment malfunctions to the manager; if unavailable, contact appropriate repair service. Perform start‑up and shut‑down procedures on all equipment. Operate all ultrasound equipment competently and modify technical factors as warranted. Ensure images are labeled with patient identification properly. Problem‑solve equipment malfunctions and physical limitations of equipment. Handle all equipment with care. Provide welfare and care for all patients under control, implementing immobilization devices for safety and comfort. Introduce self and explain exam to patient. Reconfirm patient identification with two patient IDs and verify the requested procedure. Use scripting when required. Maintain positive customer relations, including proper phone etiquette. Display professional manner when interacting with patients, physicians, family members, and staff. Competently position patients for all ultrasound exams. Problem‑solve physical limitations during patient positioning. Perform film reviews to determine if additional views are necessary. Minimize repeat work. Attend continuing education seminars and keep abreast of current literature. Maintain professional accreditation in ARDMS and Nuchal Translucency certification. Attend departmental meetings. Fulfill required CME credits for ARDMS. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Maintain CPR certification. Provide directions and instruction to new staff, students, and staff in need of assistance. Ensure a safe patient and work environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazards, pathology specimens, and laboratory requisitions. Clean, prepare and sanitize aspiration handles and transducers per manufacturer recommendations and infection controls. Apply sterile techniques and prevent cross‑contamination of patients and instruments. Maintain adequate supplies in US rooms; notify manager if supplies are depleted. Enter charges for completed procedures. Communicate with other departments to schedule exams for the patient. Assume leadership in the absence of Lead Technologist or department supervisor. Interact closely with the Ultrasound Team Lead and department supervisor to ensure smooth daily operation. Attend regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in‑services. Assist in orientation of Ultrasound Department personnel. Help answer telephones, review physician’s orders, and perform other related duties as requested by the department supervisor. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required ARDMS‑Registered in OB. Certified in performing Nuchal Translucency within 6 months. CPR certification. Education/Experience Required Graduate of AMA‑approved school of ultrasound. 2 years OB/GYN experience. Must become proficient in fetal echos within 1 year of hire date. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Good skills in OB/GYN and pelvic ultrasound exams. Good skills in endovaginal scanning. Good skills in OB/GYN color duplex scanning. Good skills and knowledge of pathology in high‑risk OB/GYN imaging. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Knowledge of cross‑sectional anatomy. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Requires good judgment, reliability, responsibility, and independent action. Extreme flexibility in working hours. Standing for long periods of time. Perform emergency procedures as required. Move equipment to bedside. Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; use equipment for heavier loads or when patient cannot assist. Additional Information Attend additional in‑services to keep up with 30 hours accreditation. Attend annual in‑services on fire safety and infection control to meet department safety requirements.
