ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY

TITLE: Director of Facilities

REPORTS TO: Director of Fiscal and School Services and Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Custodians/Maintenance/Custodial Substitutes


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Facilities is responsible for the overall planning, management, operation, maintenance, safety, and security of the school district's buildings, grounds, athletic facilities, equipment, and related infrastructure. The Director provides leadership and direction to maintenance, custodial, and other facilities personnel and ensures that district facilities are safe, clean, functional, efficient, and supportive of student learning.

The Director works closely with district administration, building administrators, contractors, vendors, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and employees to coordinate day-to-day operations and long-term facility planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelors Degree in Facilities or Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
2. 3 - 5 years experience in a related field with comparable experience preferred and supervisory experience required.
3. Excellent supervisory, communication, human relations and personnel-management skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with administrators, staff, vendors and contractors.
5. Knowledge of building systems, preventative maintenance, safety practices, and facility operations.
6. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project-management skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide leadership for district custodial staff.


2. To direct all maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.

3. To have knowledge of the equipment operations.


4. To have knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures in each building and to provide and maintain standard operating procedures at each building.


5. To be subject to emergency call to the buildings.


6. Strive to maintain a high level of pride in the care and maintenance of all district facilities.


7. To maintain communication with the Administration and staff.


8. Address concerns, conflicts, and work with building principals to resolve issues.


9. Assist Administration in managing/oversight of the district construction projects.


10. Responsible for managing the computerized HVAC system from a remote location (home, etc.)


11. Provide building systems and equipment training for appropriate staff.


12. Recommend policies and regulations dealing with facilities.


13. Conduct regular inspections of all school facilities, grounds, and equipment to ensure that high standards for cleanliness, attractiveness and safety are maintained.


14. Monitor and recommend systems and procedures to ensure the security of all facilities.


15. Maintain current drawings and engineering records describing district facilities, equipment, and grounds.


16. Research and make recommendations for improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the repair, maintenance, and cleaning services so that attractive, healthy, and safe facilities are provided.


17. Develop, implement, and monitor an effective grounds maintenance program, including playground equipment, to ensure that the grounds are attractive and safe.


18. Supervise removal of snow and ice so that safe conditions exist and schools can be opened in a timely manner.


19. Develop and maintain a multi-year Capital Improvement Plan in coordination with the Director of Fiscal and School Services.


20. Monitor expenditures and ensure operations remain within approved budgets.


21. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Fiscal and School Services and the Superintendent as normally attributed to the position.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a salaried 12-month position. The Director of Facilities will be on call for emergencies as well. Attendance at evening meetings will be at the discretion of the Superintendent.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of administrative personnel under Act 93.
