The Medical Assistant Scribe performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting as a medical assistant. Acts as a medical scribe for a provider in the ambulatory setting.

The location is 1134 Kelton Avenue, Suite B, Ocoee, FL 34761 and will travel with the provider to 1920 Don Wickham Drive, Suite 335, Clermont, FL 34711

The hours are Monday - Tuesday and Thursday, 8am-5pm, Wednesday, 7am-4pm and Friday, 8am-4pm

Previous Scribing experience referred

Must be a Certified Medical Assistant for at least 3 years


Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

• Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician,
  including but not limited to:
• Patient medical history and physical exam.
• Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
• Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
• Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructionsfor patient or family members forself-care and follow-up.
• Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician.
• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities
• Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
• Works collaboratively with the administrative and operationsstaff.
• Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
• Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
• Assiststhe physician during examination and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
• Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
• Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process in the assigned practice for Medical Assistants Scribes. Acts as MA scribe preceptor and/or oversees assigned preceptor(s) in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership and corporate Learning Consultant.
• Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
• Assists the physician by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
• Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
• Able to help lead and participate in departmental committees and special projects as assigned.
• Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
• Adheres and assures compliance with Orlando Health and department specific policy, procedures, value statements and Commitment to Excellent standards.
• Consistently demonstrates personal and patient safety practices and adherence to infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions:

• Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and have the ability to assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients on his or her assigned department and/or unit.
• Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Practices the efficient use ofsupplies.
• Assists business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under the
  Experience section) is required.
• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Scribe training program.

Licensure/Certifications:

• Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification; and
• Hold completion certification of a Scribe training program; and
• Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies:
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA) ( Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) (
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) (
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (
• Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) (
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT) ( the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) ( or by American Allied Health (AAH) (
• Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Experience:

• Minimum three (3) years as a Certified Medical Assistant.
