Quality LAB Technician

Primary Summary Performs testing on in-process and final parts from various manufacturing operations. Reads and understands drawings and specifications for correct test requirements, procedures and sampling plans. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Perform testing in tensile, torque, Rockwell Hardness, and micro hardness to ensure conformance to quality requirements and/or specifications. Assist in the preparation of metallurgical mounts by cutting, grinding, polishing and etching for testing. Review blueprint and specifications for correct test requirements, procedures, and sampling plans. Verify calibration on all test equipment is current prior to use. Complete conformance test reports as required. Assist supervisor in monitoring job status and quality. Recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on company specifications such as burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying supervisor. Follow all 5S department procedures which include keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organizing part pans, and performing other housekeeping duties. Attend all required job related training (internal and external). Comply with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures. Adhere to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements and safe operating procedures at all times. Bring any known or suspected nonconformance to management’s attention immediately. Continuously seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results. Perform other duties as assigned. Education And/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience. Preferably 1-2 years of metallurgical or physical laboratory experience. General understanding of test equipment and lab procedures. Ability to make all inspections on machined parts using precision measuring equipment. Read and interpret blueprints or other job specifications. Skills And Abilities Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic mainframe computer systems and familiarity with spreadsheet and word processing software. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Strong analytical skills that will allow for the assessment of and resolution to issues. Demonstrates high level of self‑initiative and a bias for action. Certificates, licenses, registrations Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR. Physical Demands Regularly required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. Requires eye‑hand coordination, repetitive hand and arm movements and manual dexterity. Must regularly bend, reach to shoulder level and lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing level within normal/average range. Environment, Health and Safety Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and extreme heat. Noise level usually moderate. Responsible for compliance with company and governmental safety, environmental and hazardous materials regulations and procedures. Required to wear personal protective equipment in specified areas.
