Location Permanent: 307 W Broadway, New York, NY 11206 Temporary: 232 Varet Street, Brooklyn, NY 11206 Hiring Range Salary: $105,000 to $115,000 annually (depending on experience) plus benefits. Summary Center Operations Senior Manager is a key leader responsible for the daily functions, efficient operations, and growth of lifesaving programs—including outcomes, foster, and the care and enrichment for all pets at our lifesaving centers. Center Operations Senior Managers work with leadership to oversee strategic expansion and community engagement for the success of Best Friends Animal Society’s mission and vision. They serve as program leaders to achieve objectives and function with a high degree of autonomy. Strategy & leadership: act with urgency toward Best Friends’ no‑kill 2025 goal; develop and maintain knowledge of Best Friends’ mission and strategic direction. Collaborate with Director or Senior Director to set annual lifesaving center goals and metrics; review progress and provide feedback to managers. Oversee division and departmental budgets, manage expenses and revenues, and report results. Maintain physical facilities, procure equipment, manage supplies, inventory, and building upkeep; participate in capital improvement projects. Promote community‑first strategies, engage volunteers, community members, and stakeholders; create an environment where Best Friends is the best place to work in animal welfare. Handle human resources matters—staff selection, management, development, retention; oversee headcount controls and position realignment. Lead volunteers and teams in daily lifesaving outcomes and care (adoptions, foster placement, feeding, cleaning, walking, medicating). Identify adoption and foster opportunities through events, off‑site meets, and partnerships; develop mutually beneficial relationships to expand adoption and foster placement outlets. Evaluate onsite animal capacity and determine lifesaving needs for shelter conversions; improve program efficiency and audit length‑of‑stay trends. Ensure a welcoming environment at the Lifesaving Center and off‑site events; provide superior customer service and engage visitors to support organizational goals. Develop strategies for recruitment and retention of volunteers, including foster program volunteers; track shift attendance goals aligned with organizational objectives. Create and edit social media content; collaborate with marketing, PR, and other departments to support lifesaving outcomes. Represent Best Friends in media relations and maintain the organization’s voice across communications. Supervise veterinary leadership; ensure high standards of medical care, compliance with regulations, and alignment with shelter medicine best practices. Maintain a safe workplace; model safe practices and address unsafe conditions with leadership. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED; 3–5 years experience in animal welfare, animal care, or veterinary practice. Solid leadership and management experience (minimum 3 years overseeing budgets and staff); experience with a humane organization preferred. Proficiency in using statistical information to develop and implement strategic plans and change management. Excellent communication skills; public speaking and presentation experience; ability to advocate Best Friends’ position on issues. Bilingual or multi‑lingual skills preferred. Customer‑centric, non‑judgmental approach; familiarity with conversational adoption processes. Ability to handle cats and dogs, including those with health or behavior concerns; basic animal medical and behavioral knowledge. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, professionalism; ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with strong organizational skills. Resourceful, proactive, problem‑solving, flexible, and persistent. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with shelter software or willingness to learn. Valid driver’s license; ability to travel, including overnight stays; meets best‑friends driver qualification standards. Physical Requirements Routine lifting of 40 pounds, daily strenuous activity (lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, bending); repetitive tasks (typing, sitting, walking, arm, and hand motion); work indoors and outdoors in extreme heat and cold; exposure to animals of all sizes and temperaments; valid driver’s license and ability to travel overnight; work may include weekends, nights, holidays, and after‑hours monitoring of a designated phone line for emergencies.
