Job Summary The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN), the NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily‑living assistance, including the following responsibilities: Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under RN supervision. Delivers age‑appropriate care based on the resident’s physical and psychological needs as per the care plan. Assists with basic health‑care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital sign recording, and psychosocial support. Assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and performs range‑of‑motion and passive exercises. Completes food preparation and dining tasks, creates a positive dining experience, and assists residents with meals and snacks. Assists nursing staff with procedures as needed. Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and dietary; communicates changes to the charge nurse. Collects non‑invasive body‑fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas. Assists with wellness and recreational programs and encourages resident participation. May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as required. Qualifications High school graduate or GED preferred; not required. Minimum age 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required, to be obtained within four months of hire or through an enrollment/endorsement program; training and certification provided by the facility. Successfully completes yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintains at least 12 hours of continuing education credits annually. Maintains all required certifications mandated by the department. When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry. In facilities where driving is part of the role, classified as a Sanford Category II Driver, must submit motor vehicle report and proof of a valid driver’s license and must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
