Carrier Procurement Representative

The Carrier Procurement Representative is responsible for developing a high-performing transportation carrier network that supports efficient, scalable, and cost-effective freight solutions. This role plays a critical part in driving carrier sourcing strategies, negotiating competitive pricing and service agreements, strengthening carrier relationships, and improving overall transportation performance. The ideal candidate possesses strong procurement, negotiation, and relationship management skills with a deep understanding of transportation operations, carrier compliance, and supply chain logistics. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally with operations, compliance, and client-facing teams to optimize carrier capacity, reduce transportation costs, mitigate operational risk, and enhance service delivery across multiple markets. This role requires a proactive and analytical professional who can identify opportunities for network expansion, evaluate carrier performance metrics, and execute strategic procurement initiatives that support company growth and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Detailed daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Source, qualify, and onboard transportation carriers to build and maintain a reliable, scalable, and compliant carrier network across multiple transportation modes. Develop strategic carrier partnerships through effective relationship management, ongoing communication, and performance accountability. Negotiate carrier rates, service agreements, and contractual terms to secure competitive pricing, maximize service levels, and improve operational efficiencies. Analyze market trends, lane performance, capacity conditions, and carrier utilization to support procurement strategy and transportation planning decisions. Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS), CRM platforms, EDI integrations, and other logistics technologies to manage carrier operations, tracking, dispatching, and reporting activities. Monitor carrier scorecards, service performance, safety ratings, insurance requirements, and compliance documentation to ensure adherence to company standards and regulatory requirements. Partner with operations and customer service teams to proactively resolve service disruptions, claims, capacity shortages, and carrier escalations. Identify cost‑saving opportunities and implement continuous improvement initiatives that drive operational efficiency and transportation savings. Support carrier development initiatives through lead generation, market research, and ongoing network expansion efforts. Maintain accurate carrier records, contracts, pricing structures, and procurement documentation. Ensure compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, FDA, and other transportation‑related regulations and company policies. Contribute to strategic procurement initiatives that support business growth, customer satisfaction, and long‑term carrier retention.

EXPERIENCE

3–5 years of experience in carrier procurement, transportation brokerage, logistics, supply chain management, or related transportation operations roles preferred. Proven success negotiating carrier rates, managing transportation vendors, and building carrier partnerships in a fast‑paced logistics environment. Strong understanding of transportation operations, freight markets, carrier sourcing strategies, and supply chain best practices. Experience utilizing Transportation Management Systems (TMS), CRM software, EDI platforms, and logistics technology tools. Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, FDA, and other transportation compliance standards preferred. Demonstrated ability to analyze transportation data, market trends, and carrier performance metrics to support procurement decisions. Strong business acumen with the ability to balance service quality, operational performance, and cost‑management objectives. Experience managing multiple priorities and carrier accounts simultaneously with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
