OCTO MicroStrategy Architect

The MicroStrategy Architect is responsible for the design, development, governance, and optimization of the organization's MicroStrategy BI platform. This role serves as the technical authority on MicroStrategy architecture, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing analytics solutions that support enterprise reporting and decision-making needs. The Architect partners closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and BI developers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design and maintain the overall MicroStrategy platform architecture, including schema objects, metadata, security models, and environment configuration
Lead the development of enterprise semantic layers (logical data models, attributes, facts, hierarchies) that align with business definitions
Define and enforce best practices for report/dashboard/dossier development, performance tuning, and governance
Architect and manage MicroStrategy environments (Intelligence Server, MicroStrategy Web/Library, Mobile) including clustering, load balancing, and disaster recovery
Oversee platform upgrades, patching, and migration projects (e.g., version upgrades, cloud migrations)
Design and implement security models including user/group provisioning, row-level security, and object-level access controls
Optimize query performance through VLDB settings, SQL generation review, aggregate tables, and caching strategies
Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure data models support BI consumption needs
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to BI developers and analysts
Evaluate new MicroStrategy features and capabilities (e.g., HyperIntelligence, Auto Cloud, embedded analytics) and recommend adoption
Troubleshoot complex platform issues and serve as an escalation point for production support
Maintain documentation of architecture standards, data lineage, and platform configurations
Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, with 5+ years specifically in MicroStrategy development and architecture
Deep expertise in MicroStrategy Architect, schema design, and metadata management
Strong knowledge of MicroStrategy administration (Intelligence Server, Web, Mobile, Command Manager, Integrity Manager)
Proficiency in SQL and understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling
Experience with VLDB properties, performance tuning, and SQL optimization
Experience designing and implementing security models in MicroStrategy
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-based MicroStrategy deployments
Strong understanding of ETL processes and data warehousing concepts
Excellent communication skills with ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
Preferred Qualifications
MicroStrategy Certified Architect or equivalent certification
Experience with MicroStrategy Cloud or Auto Cloud environments
Familiarity with other BI/analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI) for migration or hybrid environments
Scripting experience (Python, Shell) for automation of administrative tasks
Experience in Agile/Scrum development environments
Industry-specific analytics experience (finance, healthcare, retail, etc.)
