Job Summary The Fire Science Department at RRCC is seeking a student worker to support daily Fire Academy and Fire Science program operations, including equipment preparation, inventory management, and logistical support for training activities. This position works closely with Fire Science faculty and staff to ensure instructional readiness and safe, efficient program delivery. This position reports to Fire Science Department leadership. The work schedule varies based on program needs and may include hours outside of a traditional classroom schedule. Work is performed primarily at the Lakewood campus and designated training sites. This is a student employee position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability. Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits. Students who qualify for work study employment are encouraged to apply. Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours. For student hourly employment: Must be an RRCC student and enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours). Ability to maintain confidentiality. Successful completion of a Red Rocks Community College Fire Academy within the last six (6) months Must be reliable, punctual and have a good work ethic. Possession of Firefighter I certification issued by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) Possession of Hazardous Materials Operations certification issued by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) Ability to work from campus (Lakewood campus location) and be eligible for student employment. Physical & Cognitive Demands The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position. This position involves both sedentary and non-sedentary duties. Frequently moves, stands, walks, bends, lifts, positions, moves and transports, equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 180 lbs. The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills. Benefits Medical insurance is offered to instructors and other variable hour employees who have worked, on average, at least 30 hours per week in a 12-month period. RRCC/CCCS uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need. Instructors and non-student hourly are required to contribute to Colorado PERA at a fixed percentage of their salary and do not contribute to Social Security.
