Posted Job Title Veterinary Technician, Operating Room Job Description Summary This Veterinary Technician position encompasses operating room responsibilities, sterilizing duties, and general nursing care for large animal patients. The position reports directly to the Supervisor of Central Supply and Operating Room. Job Description This position is located in Kennett Square, PA (Chester County), approximately 33 miles outside of Philadelphia. There is no public transportation to this location; you must have your own transportation. Job Responsibilities Assist in the preparation and circulation for all surgical procedures in a large animal hospital. Knowledge of aseptic technique, operating various surgery table and overhead hoist systems, assisting the surgical team in donning surgical attire, and table setup. Prepare and maintain equipment for Pool Recovery System, assign tasks, and guide personnel/students throughout Pool Recovery System. Maintain Usual Surgical Requests and surgery logs, update Department SOP’s, enter appropriate billing information into EMR. Clean and maintain all Central Supply equipment and stock. Independent operation of steam autoclaves, ETO sterilizer, and other equipment. Assist with ordering and receiving Central Supply stock. Inspect, test, assemble, package, and label instruments in preparation for sterilization to ensure that instruments are ready and available when needed. Run biological monitoring and incubate, read, and record biological monitor results. Teach veterinary students and veterinary nursing students. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Requires the ability to function quickly and react to stressful situations involving patient care. Requires experience in handling large animals, especially in techniques of restraint. Good interpersonal skills needed to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and clients both written and verbally. The position requires rotating and on‑call schedules as well as occasional overtime, with some weekends assigned. The position also requires the ability to be within a 20‑minute travel time to the hospital when on‑call. Veterinary Technician A Associate of Science degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary technician program and 0 to 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. CVT or a Bachelor’s degree in Animal or Equine Science or another related field is preferred. Veterinary Technician B Associate of Science degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary technician program and 1 to 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. CVT or a Bachelor’s degree in Animal or Equine Science or another related field is preferred. Job Location - City, State Kennett Square, Pennsylvania Department / School School of Veterinary Medicine Pay Range $17.55 - $28.13 hourly rate. Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level.
