Humanities Instructional Coach

Jalen Rose Leadership Academy is hiring a Full Time Humanities Instructional Coach. Must have Administration certification. Preference will be given to candidates whose resumes demonstrate measurable impact and data-driven results.

Established in 2011 by NBA Star Jalen Rose and Co-Founder Michael Carter, JRLA is located on the Northwest side of Detroit in the zip code where Jalen grew up. An open enrollment, tuition-free, public charter high school, JRLA provides a leadership-focused education to 420 scholars and nearly 1,000 alumni. The mission is to empower all scholars to develop the strength of character, skills, and knowledge needed to matriculate, be great in, and graduate from college or a postsecondary program so that they have the opportunities to be successful in the competitive world and take care of themselves and the people they love.

Job Summary

The Humanities Instructional Coach supports teachers in strengthening instruction in English Language Arts, social studies, and related humanities disciplines. This position provides instructional coaching, professional development, curriculum support, and data-informed guidance to improve teaching practices and student achievement. The Humanities Instructional Coach collaborates with teachers and school leadership to promote effective, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties

• Coach and support teachers through observation, modeling, feedback, and collaborative planning.

• Provide guidance on effective instructional strategies, classroom practices, and student engagement.

• Support the implementation and alignment of humanities curriculum with state standards and school expectations.

• Analyze student achievement data and assist teachers in using data to inform instruction.

• Model lessons and instructional strategies as appropriate.

• Facilitate professional development, professional learning communities, and teacher training.

• Support teachers with lesson planning, assessment development, differentiation, and intervention strategies.

• Help teachers identify and address student learning needs.

• Collaborate with school leadership to identify instructional priorities and develop improvement strategies.

• Support consistent implementation of curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment expectations across classrooms.

• Stay current with effective practices and resources related to humanities education.

• Maintain appropriate documentation of coaching, professional development, and instructional support.

• Build positive, trusting relationships with teachers and staff while maintaining confidentiality.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Humanities, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an appropriate endorsement in a humanities-related content area required.

• Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred.

• Experience providing instructional coaching, mentoring, or professional development preferred.

• Strong knowledge of effective instructional practices, curriculum development, assessment, and differentiation.

• Experience using student data to inform instruction and support student achievement.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to build trusting relationships and provide constructive feedback.

• Proficiency with educational technology and common instructional platforms.

• Commitment to continuous professional growth and improving student outcomes.

Core Competencies should include passion for working with scholars and families in under-served communities, effective verbal and written communication skills, team player with strong interpersonal/influence skills and possess organizational and technology skills.
