Behavioral Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (BHSOAC) Job Title Attorney IV (SLC 12) Salary $11,993.00 – $16,096.00 per Month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, if applicable. Working Conditions Personal Leave Program (PLP 2025) will apply to employees represented in BU 2, effective July 2025 and extending through October 2026. Employees will work their assigned schedules with a pay reduction of 4.62% and receive 8 hours of PLP 2025 per pay period. Minimum Requirements This position is classified as Attorney IV. The salary range is $11,993.00 – $16,096.00 per month. Multiple positions are available. Licensing Requirement The incumbent must hold, and maintain, an active California State Bar license. Responsibilities Review, research, and interpret federal and state laws, regulations, case law, and program guidance. Advise on funding issues and parameters of broad discretionary authority. Assist in drafting and reviewing program policy guidance. Provide substantive litigation support to the Office of the Attorney General. Draft, negotiate, and oversee execution of grants, contracts, exempt contracts, and related instruments such as sponsorships or subscriptions. Desirable Qualifications Education, training and/or experience to perform complex, highly technical policy legal work with minimal supervision. In-depth research and analysis of federal and state statutes, regulations, and case law. Ability to provide verbal guidance and formulate strategic approaches for implementation. Drafting well-reasoned, concise written legal opinions and guidance. Experience drafting and reviewing proposed legislation and regulations. Background in public contract drafting and California procurement law and processes. Knowledge of the Public Records Act. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex legal issues orally and in writing. Capable of meeting strict deadlines and working autonomously on expedited matters. Willingness and ability to perform all duties in a customer‑service‑oriented manner. Benefits Benefit information can be found on the CalHR website and the CalPERS website.
