Maintenance Technician
Job Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving electrical, PLC, hydraulic, mechanical, and facility systems throughout a manufacturing environment. This position performs preventive and predictive maintenance, responds to equipment issues, documents completed work, and works closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Successful technicians should have strong mechanical and technical abilities, sound problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely both independently and as part of a team.

Level 1 responsibilities

• Follow established safety, quality, maintenance, and work procedures.
• Read and follow preventive maintenance procedures, basic engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
• Inspect, test, measure, repair, and replace mechanical equipment according to established procedures.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment.
• Complete daily maintenance assignments and respond to equipment-related issues.
• Accurately document maintenance activities, time, completed work, and preventive maintenance results using computerized systems.
• Maintain complete and accurate maintenance records.
• Work with other technicians, engineers, leads, and supervisors to improve equipment reliability, product quality, workplace safety, and process efficiency.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and technical training.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow 5S practices.

Level 2 responsibilities

In addition to Level 1 responsibilities:

• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and replace hydraulic, electrical, PLC, and mechanical equipment.
• Apply knowledge of electrical, PLC, hydraulic, and mechanical systems to diagnose and resolve more complex equipment problems.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Install, commission, and troubleshoot new machinery and equipment.
• Assist with equipment improvement and reliability initiatives.
• Continue developing technical skills through hands-on training and experience.

Level 3 responsibilities

In addition to Level 1 and Level 2 responsibilities:

• Independently diagnose and resolve complex equipment, facility, and emergency maintenance issues, often under time-sensitive conditions.
• Develop detailed maintenance procedures covering inspection, testing, measurement, repair, and component replacement.
• Train and mentor other Maintenance Technicians on equipment, troubleshooting techniques, and maintenance procedures.
• Troubleshoot PLC-related issues by identifying, isolating, and correcting common system faults.
• Support predictive maintenance efforts through data analysis, engineering drawings, schematics, computerized testing, and statistical trend analysis.
• Perform and develop less-routine preventive maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, production, and leadership teams to improve equipment reliability, safety, quality, and overall operational efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance and support for complex maintenance issues.
