Job Details: Location – DERMATOLOGY HIXSON – Hixson, TN 37343; Position Type – Full Time; Education Level – High School; Job Shift – Day; Job Category – Nurse Clinical Support, CMA Dermatology Galen Medical Group offers several medical specialties throughout the Chattanooga region. We provide quality care and patient-friendly services to adults and children of all ages. Summary / Objective Collaborates with the provider to determine the needs of the patient and assists the provider with providing quality medical care to the patients. Essential Functions Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary. Collects data accurately and ensures that all information, informed consents, and patient images are correctly entered into the patient’s medical record in EHR. Writes and maintains records for the provider during office visits (scribe duties). Prep and assists the provider with numerous surgical procedures such as ED&C’s, shave/punch biopsies, ILK, cosmetics, etc. Accurately completes all pathology and laboratory requisitions as required. Prepares and stocks examination and treatment rooms. Cleanly sterilizes instruments. Assists providers with minor office procedures, including biopsies, surgeries, and treatments for various skin conditions. Comfortable with suture removal. Schedules outpatient testing, procedures or surgeries. Manages the referral process. Conducts triage of patient phone calls per site’s protocol. Processes prescription refill requests per physician’s protocol. Performs any needed dermatologic ancillary testing as ordered by the physician. Laboratory testing may include rapid tests, urinalysis, bilirubin, auto CBC, and phlebotomy. Reviews lab and test results. Provides follow-up to the patient per provider’s instructions. Provides health education and post‑op instructions to the patient as needed. Performs all duties in compliance with Galen’s clinical policies and OSHA standards. Maintains a clean and neat work area. Actively participates in process improvement efforts. Assists other team members based on office demands. Recognizes and demonstrates cost‑effective measures in the utilization of supplies and equipment. Assures accurate and timely documentation of all patient‑related encounters in the medical record. Other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor. Additional Responsibilities Provide health education to the patient as needed. Repeatedly ensure compliance with Galen’s clinical policies and OSHA standards. Maintain a clean and neat work area. Actively participate in process improvement efforts. Assist other team members as required. Recognize and demonstrate cost‑effective measures in utilization of supplies and equipment. Complete assignments efficiently and in a timely manner. Understand and abide by OSHA, HIPAA & CLIA standards. Qualifications High School graduate or equivalent. Must be a Certified Medical Assistant from a nationally accredited institution. Completed the Association of Certified Dermatology Technician Course or will complete within one year of hire. Previous clinical and phlebotomy experience is preferred. One year of relative medical assistant experience in the clinical setting is required if completion of a Medical Assistant program qualification is not met. 1–3 years’ clinical medical experience is preferred, preferably in Dermatology. Individuals must be BLS trained and certified at all times. Must be computer literate. Basic Life Support certification is required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task and work as a team player. Excellent computer skills. Ability to follow clinical pathways and protocols. Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle higher‑stress phone calls.
