Overview Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital’s staff is composed of full‑time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes‑Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The position is designed to provide the hospital with an additional source of Registered Nurses for use by all patient care areas within Barnes‑Jewish Hospital. It will support staffing needs during periods of fluctuating census and acuity, assist in the cost‑effective utilization of nursing personnel, and help promote the delivery of quality patient care. Role Purpose The House Supervisor has authority and responsibility for the administrative supervision of patient care and other hospital departments, acting as a representative of Administration during off‑shift periods and in the absence of the Administrator. The role serves as a liaison with departments and, when necessary, consults with the on‑call Administrator to handle unusual circumstances, allocate resources, and resolve clinical problems or complaints. Responsibilities Manage staff, including hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, and conducting professional development plans. Supervise safe and appropriate patient care across the organization, responding effectively to special circumstances and acting as on‑site leadership. Assist with patient care operations and integration of services between departments. Support the clinical development of nursing staff by observing, coaching, and monitoring performance and unit compliance with regulatory guidelines. Serve as a liaison between Administration and all departments and customers. Participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue, and expense budgets, and ensure adherence to budgetary goals. Minimum Requirements Education Nursing Diploma or Associate’s Degree Experience 2‑5 years of nursing experience Supervisor Experience At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
