Job Title: Overnight PRN Medical Assistant / EMT

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to support overnight clinical research studies in a modern, leading-edge clinical research center. As an Overnight PRN Medical Assistant or EMT, you will help monitor study participants, support research protocols, and assist with basic specimen collection and documentation. You will work as part of a collaborative care team that includes clinical staff and a PRN RN, contributing to studies that support the development of promising new treatments.

Responsibilities

• Arrive for overnight PRN shifts in the evening to relieve permanent clinical staff and provide continuous support throughout the night.
• Monitor pediatric and adult study participants during overnight clinical research studies, ensuring comfort, safety, and adherence to study protocols.
• Perform basic patient care activities within the scope of a Medical Assistant or EMT, as directed by clinical staff and research protocols.
• Collect urine and fecal specimens from study participants according to established procedures and protocol requirements.
• Document observations, patient interactions, and study-related information accurately and in a timely manner in the appropriate records or systems.
• Collaborate closely with the PRN RN and other clinical team members to support the execution of overnight study protocols.
• Follow all clinical research center policies and procedures related to patient care, specimen handling, and data integrity.
• Support a calm, professional environment for participants and their families, including pediatric participants whose parents may be present during the study.
• Adhere to all safety, infection control, and privacy standards while working in the clinical research setting.
• Assist with general workflow and tasks needed to ensure smooth operation of overnight clinical trials.

Essential Skills

• Previous Medical Assistant experience.
• Work history in healthcare with experience providing direct patient care.
• Ability to work overnight PRN (as-needed) shifts and remain alert and attentive throughout the night.
• Comfort working with both pediatric and adult patients in a clinical setting.
• Ability to perform basic medical assisting tasks, including patient monitoring and specimen collection.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and following study protocols.
• Effective communication skills to interact with patients, families, and clinical staff.
• Reliability and professionalism in an overnight clinical research environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is welcomed in addition to Medical Assistant experience.
• Willingness to work alongside a PRN RN and integrate into a multidisciplinary clinical research team.
• Openness to learning clinical research processes; prior clinical research experience is not required.
• Ability to adapt to different types of studies, including those involving pediatric participants with parents present and adult participants.
• Interest in contributing to research that supports the development of new treatments and advances in patient care.

Work Environment

You will work in an overnight clinical research setting in Kansas within a centralized facility that houses clinical research functions previously spread across multiple locations. The environment includes on-site bioanalytical and clinical laboratory facilities that support proper specimen management, which is critical to advancing treatment options. Shifts are PRN (as-needed) and begin in the late evening, with overnight hours typically starting at 10:00 p.m. and lasting approximately 810 hours. You will work alongside a PRN RN and other clinical staff in a professional, patient-focused setting designed to support both community physicians and their patients who may be participating in clinical trials. The facility emphasizes safety, collaboration, and adherence to clinical and research protocols while maintaining a calm, supportive atmosphere for participants and their families.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairway, KS.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
