Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 18 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 12 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >65 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner experience. If experience is strictly ICU, Cerner is required.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemo experience highly preferred.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). If you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. Up to 7 days off can be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval. Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. 2026 RTO dates requiring approval: Martin Luther King Jr. Day 1/19; Valentine’s Day week 2/13 -15; entire month of March; Easter weekend 4/3 - 4/5; Mother’s Day weekend 5/8-10; Memorial Day week 5/23 – 5/25; Father’s Day weekend 6/19-21; Fourth of July 7/3-7/5; Labor Day weekend 9/5-9/7; Halloween 10/30-11/1; Thanksgiving 11/25-11/29; Christmas and New Year’s 12/18-1/1.

Unit Details: Possible home units include trauma/surgical, neuroscience, MedSurg/oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and MS/ortho/urology. 6 North Trauma Surgical: general surgery and vascular surgery patients; unit skills include trauma/surgical care, wound care, chest tubes, NGTs, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations. 5 South Neuroscience: CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; unit skills include IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG/NGT, colostomy/ostomy care, wound care, chest tubes, surgical site care, C-collars, abdominal binders, and restraints. 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: MedSurg/oncology, palliative care, and ETOH withdrawal patients; unit skills include trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, and chemo administration if certified. 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: general MedSurg patients including COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; unit skills include tracheotomy care, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, external catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tubes, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, and restraints. 3 South Orthopedics: orthopedic and spine patients including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; unit skills include PCA pumps, negative pressure dressings, dressing changes, foleys, and hemovacs/JP drains. 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: urology, ENT, ortho, and MedSurg patients; unit skills include trach care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, and nurse-driven Foley protocol. Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation is every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No on-call. Holiday expectations are one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. Schedule cycle is 4 weeks; no self-scheduling, uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: Float to like units/patient locations: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds.
