Are you a skilled mechanical engineer with a passion for designing the tools that make aerospace manufacturing possible? We are seeking a Senior Tooling Design Engineer to join our team and drive the development of complex tooling solutions for aircraft modification, component sub-assembly, and integrated manufacturing operations.

In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of tooling design—from initial concept and CAD modeling to fabrication support and production integration. Your work will directly impact the safety, efficiency, and repeatability of our manufacturing processes, ensuring that our aircraft programs are supported by world-class tooling systems.

What You Will Do

• Design & Develop: Create, refine, and review tooling layouts, detailed 2D drawings, and 3D models for jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated systems. Ensure designs are clear, accurate, safe, and manufacturable.
• Problem-Solve: Identify design errors, interferences, and process risks early; recommend and implement corrective actions and improvements.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure tooling supports efficient, repeatable production across build, test, and field environments.
• Validate & Verify: Support design verification and functional tryout of tools, ensuring completeness from initial concept through final acceptance. Assist in developing acceptance criteria for in-house and outsourced fabrication.
• Drive Continuous Improvement: Provide hands-on design support for integrating new processes, improving existing workflows, and enabling ergonomic, safe, and cost-effective production.
• Lead & Guide: Exercise considerable autonomy in design decisions. Provide technical guidance to engineering, fabrication shops, and operations on tooling requirements and best practices.

What You Bring

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 6+ years of relevant experience in mechanical or tooling design (advanced degrees may substitute for experience).

Technical Skills:

• Deep understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAE tools, specifically 3D Xperience and 3D modeling/drafting applications.
• Experience designing tooling such as jigs, fixtures, lifting/support equipment, assembly aids, and ergonomic production tools.

Soft Skills & Approach:

• Comfortable working autonomously and making critical design decisions.
• Excellent collaborator with experience in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong communication skills to convey complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.
