JOB DESCRIPTION NATURE OF WORK The School Crossing Guard position ensures the safe passage of students, parents, and pedestrians at designated school zones, oversees safe bus loading and unloading areas, and coordinates with drivers to enforce proper drop‑off procedures. This role is essential for maintaining pedestrian and traffic safety during school hours in the City of Albertville. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Direct students and pedestrians safely across streets at assigned crossing zones. Monitor and control traffic to facilitate secure crossing conditions. Utilize hand signals, stop signs, or other equipment to manage vehicle flow effectively. Report hazardous conditions, traffic violations, or incidents to supervisors or law enforcement. Maintain a professional and visible presence at designated crossing locations. Adhere strictly to the City of Albertville’s safety protocols and procedures. Inspect and maintain safety equipment, including lights, gloves, and reflective vests, reporting any malfunctions or wear to supervisors promptly. Ensure unobstructed spaces behind buses to support safe loading and unloading operations. Communicate effectively with drivers to enforce no-drop-off zones, prevent unauthorized student drop-offs, and direct vehicles to designated drop-off areas. Perform duties during assigned part-time shifts, typically 1–2 hours in the morning and 1–2 hours in the afternoon, aligned with school schedules. Be available for employment during the academic year, with potential additional hours for school-related events. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must be at least 18 years of age. Capable of standing for extended periods in varying weather conditions. Able to lift up to 25 pounds. Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to interact courteously with students, parents, and motorists. Exhibit reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to child safety. Possess the ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety guidelines. No prior experience required; comprehensive training will be provided. Must successfully complete all pre‑employment requirements of the City of Albertville.
