SUMMARY: The Warehouse Operations Manager, under the supervision of the Director, Distribution Center Operations - AL, is tasked with the day-to-day operations of the company’s Alabama warehouses and will oversee the efficient receipt, storage, picking, wrapping/stabilization, shipping, and dispatch of a wide variety of products. You must be a role model, leader, problem solver, make informed decisions, and be accountable in the management of the Shipping and Receiving departments to achieve maximum results. These departments are critical in the timely receipt, put-away, and storage of products and shipment of products to our customers. These departments are responsible for the proper picking, wrapping, packing, shipping, and taking the proper steps to make sure our customer service standards are met with each order to ensure that the customer receives the order complete and in a presentable manner. The Warehouse Operations Manager will oversee the facilities and, be responsible for the guidance, discipline, safety, and growth of all warehouse personnel. Ultimately, you must be able to ensure productivity targets are achieved and that all warehouse processes are running smoothly, efficiently, and promptly. Apply process where it creates value, and design process where necessary KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.Complies with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions.Manages and controls inventory levels by conducting physical and cycle counts; reconciling with the ERP system; and producing reports and statistics regularly (IN/OUT status report, dead stock report, ABC reports, Missed Fulfillment reports, etc.)Maintains the physical condition of warehouses by planning and implementing new design layouts and ensuring efficient space utilization; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.Completes warehouse operational and business requirements by scheduling and assigning employee work schedules; and following up on work results.Maintains warehouse staff by interviewing, selecting, recommending, orienting, and training employees.Maintains warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, rewarding, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) for said department.Efficiently manage the elements of the warehouse that affect the successful receiving, picking, packing, and/or shipping.Responsible for the efficient and timely picking and shipping of all products shipped to our customers which is consistent with our customer service standards of “same-day shipping” on a daily basis.Makes sure that all equipment used in the picking and shipping areas is used in a safe productive manner and that employees are sufficiently trained in order to achieve their daily goals.Maintain a complete understanding of current software systems used to receive, pick, pack, and ship.Establish and maintain metrics for the departments and provide frequent communication and feedback to team members to enhance quality and productivity.Communicate and coordinate with receiving and shipping departments as well as customer service, sales, and other internal departments.Hold brief team meetings daily at the start of each shift to discuss daily happenings, address any concerns, discuss any upcoming special events, talk about productivity goals, talk about safety, and make sure all employees have all their PPE and are aware of the importance of using them.Help solve problems and make informed decisions that affect the service, and productivity of the picking, packing, shipping, and/or other warehouse/fulfillment departments.Adjust priorities and manage time, people, and resources wisely in a fast-paced environment.Uses scanning terminals to record and move inventory stock from Picked to Packed/Shipped statusCollaborate with warehouse employees and other staff to ensure business goals are metShips products both domestically and internationally using SXe, CSD, TWL, Pacejet, and a wide variety of carriers.Develop knowledge about freight and sea shipping regulations and practices.Maintains close working relationships with Pickers/Pullers/Packers/Shippers, and Inventory Control staff for a seamless flow of product through the facility and a steady flow of work to the packing lines.Ensure that all outbound LTL is checked, pictures are taken, and load details documented before it is loaded on the truck or departs the facilities.Approve rates given by flatbed carriers.Layout each flatbed load on paper so the loader knows exactly how he is going to load it.Make sure flatbeds are getting loaded in an efficient and timely manner.Check all flatbeds before they leave making sure the correct product is loaded on the flatbed, they are all labeled correctly, and the stop numbers are on each piece of equipmentAssist in loading/unloading trucks/containers and determining ways of stacking/unstacking items on the truck in the most efficient and safe manner.Ensure that all outgoing shipments are properly labeled and that correlating documents are available and attached to each shipment.Ensure that serial and batch numbers match the product.Respond and attend to external and internal email requests and inquiries in a timely manner.Respond to internal inquiries regarding the stages of the orders as they move through shipping in a timely manner.Keep up any necessary reports or spreadsheets.Contact dispatchers or account representatives with any issues that may arise.Must ensure that empty pubs, containers, and trailers are delivered on time.Must ensure that full pups, containers, and trailers are picked up in a reasonable amount of timeInvestigate and resolve logistics issues to ensure on-time delivery of goods to customers, and implement corrective action on shipment issues.Review shipping notices, bills of lading, shipment requirements, and other records to determine priorities and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.Supports sales order coordination requests from Customer Service, Sales, and other internal departments including freight quotes.Investigate and coordinate cost-effective freight shipments to maximize efficiency.Stays informed of logistics technology advances and applies appropriate technology to improve logistics processes.Contributes to the overall functioning of the team by maintaining awareness of best practices/emerging issues, both internally and externally, sharing best practices, and building effective working relationships across the team and company.Strategically manage the warehouse in compliance with the company’s policies and vision.Liaise with management, clients, suppliers, and transport companies.Receive feedback and monitor the quality of services provided.Coordinating transportation providers to ensure prompt and proper movement of shipments.Continuously monitor the status of all inbound and outbound cargo shipments Performs other duties and tasks as necessary or assigned.Some light travel may be required. REQUIREMENTS AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: A high school diploma, general education degree, or equivalent is required. BS/BA in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or relevant field preferred.4+ years of increasing experience in the warehousing, distribution, logistics, fulfillment, or transportation industry.4+ years of experience in warehouse management and supply chain management procedures and best practices.Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives.Strong knowledge of warehousing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)4+ years of demonstrated understanding and hands-on experience with warehouse management software, inventory management, and product flow and productivity standards.3+ years of working knowledge of ERP systems. (SAP, Oracle, Infor, Lawson, Peoplesoft, etc.)3+ years of forklift, reach truck, and order picker experience strongly preferred.Forklift certification is required.Provide effective support to team members and lead by example.Able to share knowledge and skills to enhance the teams’ overall productivity and effectiveness.Strong computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), MS Teams, Zoom, general internet use, and Windows-based software and databases.Must be able to accurately type between 45 and 60 WPM.Decisive under pressure and time constraints.Knowledge of administrative procedures. Must be proficient in English written and oral communication skills.Proactive communicator.Highly motivated and target-driven Strong attention to detail and accuracy. WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job operates in a warehouse and logistics environment typical of a large distribution center operation.The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions and protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Requires walking between different workstations or areas of the facilities and between facilities.Will need to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, steel toe boots, safety belts, and high visibility vests while in the warehouse or designated areas to ensure their safety.This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and various computer programs.While performing the duties of this job the employee will regularly operate warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks, forklifts, and hand carts which require manual dexterity requiring some coordinated movements.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.May be exposed to hazardous materials and will be working near moving machinery.The employee may be required to lift, lower, and carry products up to a maximum of 50 pounds by hand.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May require physical effort associated with using the computer or hand-held scanner to enter information.Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
