Registered Nurse

The job of the Registered Nurse is done for the purpose of providing direct nursing services to students and staff members to maximize health and wellness in the school community and to perform all duties in accordance with District/State Board of Education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice. This includes overseeing the health needs of students; developing and implementing health care plans in conjunction with the health care provider and parents; ensuring district health care practices comply with the laws relating to student health issues; providing appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; serving as a health care resource to teachers, staff, and administrators; assisting with the health screening procedures for vision and hearing; and identifying health problems for referral to appropriate sources for proper medical follow-up treatment.

The Registered Nurse will be held accountable for administering first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments with appropriate assessment and documentation; assessing situations involving students' safety, abuse and other health related issues; assisting with mandated screening procedures for vision and hearing; collaborating with parents, students, health care providers, and/or public agencies; compiling statistical data; completing accident/incident reports for students/staff; maintaining contact with a professional nursing organization and utilizing continuing education opportunities; maintaining the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies; maintaining communication with the Health Services Coordinator, Principal, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians; maintaining confidentiality regarding all school and health related issues; participating in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars; participating in maintaining accurate medical records; performing other health or school related duties as assigned; providing health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner; providing direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness/emergency care to students and staff; and utilizing existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Qualifications

Education Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related area. Certificates and licenses: As directed by Illinois Registered Professional Nurse License. First Aid and CPR/AED Certificate. Experience Preferred: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired. Previous pediatric or school nurse experience preferred.

Must be physically able to access all parts of the school building and grounds. Must have finger dexterity, grasping ability and feeling. Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak to convey or exchange communication. Language Ability: Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear. Visual Activity: Requires the ability to see at a level that allows reading of numbers and text, operating a computer and assessing an individual for illness and/or injury.

Compensation and Benefits (2026-2027 school year)
